Thought it might get a quicker answer here.

I'm in Toms River, zip 08753. As far as I know considered the NYC market since I have had MSG and FSNY, oops MSG+ (Rangers/Devils/Isles) with my RSN subscription forever. Now I hate the Flyers but wanted to watch something a bit more exciting than the Devils last night but was also blacked out of the Flyers/Pens game.

What gives? Why does NHL Network consider me both NYC and Philly market??

Anyone? Beuhler? Anyone?

From what I have heard, and I could be wrong, the NHL Network has a larger blackout radius than normal RSNs(but I haven't had confirmation to this).I too was blacked out up here in Middletown. My house overlooks NYC.My g/f lives in Seaside Park & D blacks out the Flyers there almost 100% of the time on CI.
Here in Middletown,I get them 100% of the time on CI & the NY RSNs.D has no info on a larger blackout radius for the NHLN.

I just checked your ZIP on D* RSN lookup and it doesn't list you in the Philly market. Not sure what happened.

We got it in Buffalo.

I noticed it here in central PA - we are getting blacked out on Flyer games. However, I was able to watch via FSP 628

Also, was the game on any local OTA station or any RSN that you get? If so then that would be the reason for the blackout.

No local OTA here in central PA. Just comcrap who does carry the Flyers.

I see Fridays game against the Devils will be on HNLN. I guess we will be out again.

Hey Mocco71 do you think you will get the game on MSG+.

If I subscibe to Sportspack will I be able to get the game on an RSN instead of NHLN?

I get to see that one on MSG + PLUS.

One has to remember that Comcast doesn't allow their Philly RSN on DirecTV or Dish so if it's on Comcast Philly then you'll be blacked out on NHL Network...even though you don't have Comcast Philly available to you.

D has used CSN about a dozen times this season on Center Ice.

Did anyone see this game on NHL Network (NHLHD)? Which feed did they use, Comcast Philly or Fox Sports Pittsburgh (FSP)? The game was played in Pitt.

For the record, I...
have RSN pack
have whatever pack gives me NHLHD and HDNet
am in the NYC market
do not have Center Ice

Using my logic, I should have been able to see this out-of-market game on NHLHD since I do not live in the Philly market.

Following bonscott87's idea...
IF NHLHD used the Comcast Philly feed
AND Directv cannot broadcast said Comcast Philly feed
THEN I and any Directv sub in the whole country should have been blacked out of this game.

IF they used the FSP feed
THEN only the Philly and Pitt markets should have been blacked out.

The idea floated earlier that NHLHD has a larger blackout footprint than a local RSN may be true but I have not seen any concrete proof of this yet.

Comments???

It could have been a mistake on Directv's end also. Earlier in the year in the Buffalo area and other parts of New York, we were getting blacked out of Anaheim Ducks games for some odd reason.

It was the TSN feed out of Canada. It was neither team's network partner.

To clarify. Comcast Philly *the channel* is not available to either DirecTV or Dish (because Comcast uses a loophole in the law to keep it from them). Has nothing to do with if NHL Network happens to use the Comcast Philly feed to show the game. DirecTV just shows whatever the NHL channel broadcasts. And the NHL tells DirecTV (and Dish and Cable) what zip codes should be blacked out of the NHL Network feed. DirecTV could of course have a mistake in their blackout list. Rare but does happen.

And D does use their feeds for CI on occasion. They've used CSN P 10-12 times this season.

Yep, for example they use CSN Philly if they ever play the Avs since D* isn't using Altitude for the Avs lately.

Tonight it's blacked again here in NJ.But it's on MSG + PLUS the Devils RSN so I understand that.

It's on here on MSG + PLUS in NJ.I hate listening to Mike Emerick !
He's worse than that scene in the movie JAWS where Quint runs his fingers down the chalk board. At least the game is in HD.

Bon is right... The zip code range the NHL is using for blackouts on the NHL network is much larger than the RSN ranges. Everytime the Flyers have been on the NHL network, I get it blacked out in Central PA regardless of game location or feed being used. However, if the games are available via an RSN, I will get it through the 600's or NHLCI channel range. This can be very annoying. About a month ago I watched the Leafs and Flyers on Tuesday night, then went to watch them play the following night and it was blacked out on NHL. Since the Leafs and Flyers aren't on any RSN's, I had no alternative channel.

I was out of town and couldn't verify last night. I have sportspack and yes, I typically get the games on MSG. Did you have any luck?
