View Full Version : Slimline Dish Pole Mount
I wanted to know if a 16 gauge galvanized 2 inch 8 feet tall pole from Home Depot can be used for a pole mount with the new Slimline Dish?
Thank you

Is it 2" on the outside diameter? I didn't think peeps had any luck finding 2" OD poles from the likes of Lowes and Home Dept.
I do not know for sure if the outside diameter is 2 inches. I just got that information from the label on the self.

You've got to make sure (take tape measure) that it is indeed 2 inches outer diameter. I have not heard of Home Depot or Lowes carrying them. If it really is a 2 inch outer diameter pole, please post back and let us know. I've not been able to find them locally. I'm having to rely on sat supply distributors.

2" Galvanized "pipe" at home depot is likely 2 3/8 " O.D.
Can't be used for slimline.

Yep, got a few hundred feet of 2"OD pipe at work.. can bend it to almost anything too..:)
Just remember to paint it with a good quality paint (after removing the rust preventive oils)

16 gauge is too thin for an 8ft high slimline dish.
You can instead, use a schedule 40 rigid 1-1/4 inch conduit, which has an actual diameter of 1-5/8 inches on the outside.
Two inch actual is very had to find in a thick enough tube. Rigid conduit and pipe is easy....It is available, everywhere.
To get to two inches, exactly, a fellow installing subcontractor of mine developed a special "collet" adapter that transfers the clamping force of the slimline's mounting clamp directly to the top of the pole. He has made it available inexpensively on eBay;

We have done ober 300 installs on poles with this adapter and have had none but satisfied customers.
It saves a lot of hassle. Instead of trying to find, buy and carry both sizes of poles, we now carry one universal size pole on our trucks.

+1. Get the 1-5/8" fence post from Home Depot, go to the plumbing section to ask them to cut it down to the height you want for free. Have the installer use the adapter. I have pics of this somewhere, lemme know if anyone is interested in seeing pics of this.
Went to home depot to measure it but looked at the label again and is said 2 3/8 inch not 2 inch so I did not measure it. Sorry for the mistake on the 2 inch part. :( Thanks for your help and suggestions. :)
