Pretty good "return", IMO. Kudos to the writers.
With this episode, I'm now completely comfortable with Mantegna's presence in the show... I no longer miss Patinkin. I think they really managed the transition between characters well.
Can you say "Mandy who?" :) /steve

I agree. I thought the show was excellent.
Although I do still miss Mandy's character.

I vote "excellent" too!
I've learned that anytime Mandy Patinkin is going to be in a series, you shouldn't count on him for more than one year.
Joe Mantegna does a great job, and the writers haven't missed a beat. This has been one of my favorite shows since it first aired!

Great show!!! It is actually one of my favorites.
It was a good return but I thought it needed to be a 90 minute special or "to be continued" episode. The ending was a little to fast. It went from nothing to they found the guy very quick.

you would have figured that a 20 year old cold case would have been a little harder to solve and track down the killer.

Well, I didn't enjoy it as much. I thought it was OK, but I don't really like "character" episodes. I much prefer the episodes that are centered around a specific crime and how they solve it.
I don't really care that Hodge is getting a divorce, I don't really care that the one chick is dating someone from the office and I don't really care that Joe has issues with a 20 year old crime.
I just want to see them work.

Also agree with that. Heck, I figured out the carnival angle (and mentioned it to my wife) before they did. I'd much rather see crimes that are difficult.
