This is a little 'obe' since it's been three months since my install, but.....What's the significance of the zip code the installer entered at initial set-up? Mine installed a code other than mine. When I noticed and asked he offered something like "it doesn't matter and it's how we identify ourselves to Dtv." The zip he entered is somewhere in NY and I'm on Cape Cod. I seem to be getting all the local service I should, so maybe it doesn't matter. So - should I go into set-up and change the zip code to the correct one or forget about it?

I thought that the zipcode was for proper alignment but i could be wrong so dont listen to me unless someone says the same...

The ONLY thing entering a ZIP code does is display the alignment settings for that ZIP and the selected dish. Most installers have them memorized, since they don't change much across the size of the area that most installers cover.

All other information is based on your account info, which is written to your access card.

Yup,
It is just for information. The installer probably entered a zip he used all the time. You have to enter something to move to the next screen.

But know that IF you want to take your dish elsewhere you can enter another zip and use that information to repoint your dish at a temporary address like at the great vacation flatlands (or land bumps) because you live at the beach.

Information only...you are ok!

For the longest time, you had to manually enter the zip the first time (and after every reset) you used the active channel to get your weather. Then, one of the software upgrades changed it to use that initial setup zipcode as the default zip for the active channel. I haven't checked in a while but I'm guessing that it is still that way.

Other than that, the zip code is as everyone said. Just to get the aiming settings.
