I live in Beaverton, Oregon. I noticed the channels cbswhd, nbcwhd etc. I can not get my local cbs channel in HD (KOIN). Shouldn't I be able to receive cbswhd? All of those channels are in grey. Do I call DTV and request to receive that channel?
Nor can I get it OTA..I have tried.

If the channels are in grey then I would believe you are not eligible, but you could still call DirecTV and find out.;)

They are called Distant Network Services and are local channels from New York(east) & Los Angeles (west) If DIRECTV does not offer locals in your area then a waiver can be requested to get these channels. Call in and requested that a waiver is submitted for you.
The addition of these channels with your DIRECTV service is regulated by the FCC and your Local Station Managers and the process can take 30-45 days.
If you are approved then the channels will be added to your account (csr's cannot add)

I just talked to DTV and even though I live about as west as one can live I live too far North. My channels would read CBSNWHD. So I would have to file for a waiver which I just did, DTV actually does it for you. I will find out in 35-75 days which by that time KOIN and DTV might come to some agreement. Mean while no CBSHD for me.:(

Ya beat me by 4 minutes. I hope you correct that the max # of days is only 45 but I thought she said 75. I will be notified by mail.
Thanks to the two of you for the replies.

I doubt that it will take that long. The department that processes these waiver requests probably already has documentation from most stations as to their waiver policy. You could call your local CBS station and ask them what their waiver policy is. They make the decision.

Koin generally rejects all waiver requests (I am 55 miles from the towers).
Lets hope they stop being greedy and let DTV rebroadcast the HD feed.
I get the 4 HD channels out of LA for free, waiver took less than a week, in an area where we do not have any OTA and Directv does not have my locals in HD just SD.
