i think it makes sense, install the slimline the first time and then it would be simple to upgrade to hd. BTW, i had to read your post 4 times before it made sense. also, what is the point of this thread?

i know it makes sence but there is no signal meter for the ka birds how you gonna tune it? see the point now? i guess i should have added im in a 72.5 market... when the locals migrate to the slimline customers with no locals =
almost free service call...

why are you using the receivers meter to install dishes for your customers. you should have a signal meter.

You follow the standard dithering procedure, which can successfully tune the dish with any receiver or meter capable of reading 101 and 119.

What is the point of worring about if it is pointed at the 99 and the 103... if they are using a R16 and D12...

If they upgrade to HD later on... the installer can then tweek the dish, considering it should be pretty close.

true however if its less than 90days its on me . not many will upgrade in that sort of span i guess , however they just started this shipping slimline to customers
no matter what ird they have. there going to just shipping out the hd upgrade irds. with no tech .. its a good idea it just leaves an open issue with no way to
confirm signal and no 5 lnb oval in the dish menu...

Do you really want me to answer those? :p

The 72.5 is going away. No if, ands, or buts about it. It's days for use by D* are numbered and those numbers are getting very low.

Putting in a Slimline now ensures that the customer is all set for wherever their locals may land. Be it 99/101/103/110/119. No need to re-roll trucks for yet another dish swap when their locals move. They will need a truck roll anyway (most likely) if/when they swap to HD eq. Granted, their locals ending up on 99/103 are low, as you pointed out they are getting Ku band eq. So that leaves 101/110/119. Thus the slimline.

As long as one RTFM and follows the instructions for installing the dish, the 99/103 will be there when the time comes.

Much like the cylons, DirecTv has a plan.
