I have a slimline dish and several receivers in my home. One of the HD receivers is an H21. I have purchased a new slimline dish and a very nice portable stand from Roving Internet. I plan to put this all in my fifth wheel and then just take the receiver from home when on the road.
I setup the dish and stand today and attemted to get it working. I unplugged the in feed on the back of the receiver (leaving the b band converter connected). I put an inline winegard meter between the dish and the receiver and plugged the feed back into the b band converter.
Since I had the stand setup in the back yard it was fairly easy to see if the dish was aligned closely because I could look at my permanent dish just a few feet away. I also set all the angles the same as on the permanent dish. I had setup the stand using a compass so was fairly close on alignment. I only had to move the dish a bit east and got a solid reading on the inline meter.
Going back inside, I was fully expecting to see progarmming on my tv and was suprised to get some sort of a multi-switch error message. I thought maybe rebooting the receiver would help but then I only got a continuous searching for satellite message.
After unplugging the portable setup and hooking the original feed back everyting came right back.
Any ideas what the problem might be. I have searched all over the internet and not found anything that seems to help. Does it make a difference which connection you use on the LNB. I know there are four but the directions say to hook to anyone of them. Once I had the signal reading strong do I need to take the singal meter back out to actually get a picture?
My new fiver is here and I really wanted to get this working at home under more controlled conditions before I put the dish and stand in the fifth wheel and take a trip. Some help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Steve
PS - On one of the RV forums I posted this same question and one response was as follows "On your Silmline dish, you should have four cables comming from the LNB going into a Zinwell WB68 box." I dont' have a Zinwell whatever that is and don't think I have one on the permanent dish either???
