Does it have off the air tuners? Is it as good as the HR20-700s it is replacing?

If it is an HR20... then it has built in tuners.

The c-r are just some internal codes.

It is an HR20-700

The HR20-700s just denoted that it was Silver.

C= China
R= Refurb.
These have only shown up with the HR20-700 which used to be made in Mexico but moved to China.
The DVR should still have HR20-700S

This [of course] will be disproved if there is ever a HR20-100CR

Its either that or Customer Return, ie not "defective".

If it was shipped from JABEL, it did not go overseas, but rather somewhere stateside for its "reconditioning".

Much like the age old question of "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?" I don't think we will ever truely know the real answer.

Yes they stay "stateside" for refurb, but "Customer Return" should cover everything "not new", right?

Should be. :grin:

What I'm thinking is "Customer Returns" are boxes that are sent back that are supposed to be "working". Returned due to cancelling, moved, upgraded, etc. If anything needs to be done to the box, it should just be cosmetic, wipe the drive, etc.

As opposed to "defective" boxes that "get" a deeper once-over. Replace damaged bits & pieces, new drive, etc.

Again, who knows though.

My HR20-100 that I got recently had HR20-100CR on the box and the R15-100 I got today to replace my bad R16 had R15-100CR on the box.

Thank you, as that rules out the China syndrome. :lol:

Someone very nice just explained this:
C = access card enclosed
R = refurbished

But the mystery of the Tootsie roll pop is still unknown.

Just got an HR20-700C-R myself. Didn't open yet, since I wasn't sure what that meant. Already have an HR20-700, and I'm glad I didn't get thrown into hundrednation. What are the odds that, if it's a refurb or return, that it's still as good as a new one?

Both of my new HR20-700 units lasted less than a month before they had one problem or another. The refurbs that replaced them have been going strong for about 7 or 8 months.

since all rcvrs (including refurbs) have come with cards for a year, and the codes started about 3 months ago or so, I tend to think that the code means refurbished and the C means China

"Tend to think" and knowing are two slightly different things.
C in this instance stands for "card enclosed".
RC you will find on units that come from other places than China.
