Why is Directv substituting informercials instead of the regular programming in the late evening and early morning. I checked the discover.com website and it shows normal scheduled programs all thru the night yet in my guide I have infomercials starting at midnight.

I pay for the discovery channel and I expect to get their normal programming. If DirecTV is going to substitute programming 25% of the day with infomercials, I want a discount on my programming.

Has anyone called customer service and complained? I know there is no chance they will change what they are doing because I complain but will they offer some discount.

I don't believe that Directv is substituting infomercials. If you check the Discovery website schedule a little closer:

http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-schedules/daily.html?date=20080410.101

You will see that Smashlab ends at 3am EST on Thursday morning and there is nothing on the schedule until 5:01am EST when Assignment Discovery starts.

I guess you are getting what you paid for.:)

Discovery channel suites normally go to infomercial programming around 3am. It happens every night.

You're correct. I made a mistake due to the time difference. So I guess my complaint should be directed at Discovery instead of DirecTV.

Or most channels for that matter, a ton of them start infomercials around 3am Eastern time every day.

Naw, move to the east coast you won't even notice them by that time of night. :D

I still think that there should be a law requiring every channel broadcasting more than 2 hours of paid programming per week to be made available, for free for any multi-channel provider (as long as the multi-channel provider includes the free channel in all packages)

I thought I was paying to receive 100+ possibilities of unique channels 24x7. Now a days, if you are up at 3 or 4 am there are only about 10 different shows on. At least keep showing repeats!

I hope you're not serious. We need fewer laws rather than more, and if Discovery wants to have a 24 hour a day channel of nothing but infomercials they can do it because they own their channel and can do whatever they want with it. Just like you can choose to watch something else if infomercials are not your cup of tea.

Get a DVR and record stuff to watch at 3AM if you find the selection of programming available at that time not to your liking, instead of enacting a pointless law.

I agree, no more silly laws, but this is a major issue for us on the west coast.
