View Full Version : When Will Dish Carry Trio?
Hey everybody.
Might anyone have any insight as to what the next channels added to the Dish Network packages might be?
I have been patiently waiting for Trio (now airing repeats of "Late Night with David Letterman" and "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In), but to no avail. Overall, I think it's such a cool channel.
Thought it would be added by now, especially since DirecTV has it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tim from Pittsburgh

Charlie keeps denying that there is any interest from E* customers. I would like to see it added also.

Trio has a really good concert series "Sessions At West 54th." It is worth having Trio just for that.

Every time Charlie talks about Trio he says its a Canadian Channel (it was but now its owned by the same company which owns USA Network and SCIFI)
Infact Charlies last comments about Trio was something like "who would want to watch Canadian TV anyways" (I guess Charlie has no clue how many Americans subscribe to Canadian Satellite Services such as ExpressVu)
Anyways I would love this channel, its one I miss from DirecTV.
I've emailed Dish a couple times including once last week mentioning how this would be a worthy channel addition as it includes many programs not available on other channels. They wrote back saying the request was forwarded to the programming department. If you want Trio, email Dish like I did. Maybe if they get enough requests we can get it added. It's the only channel of any value that Dish is missing. Besides Trio, Dish's channel lineup, IMO, is excellent.

But something is fishy with Dish and Trio. I'm sure there has been enough requests for it over the years (especially compared to other channels) and as posted in this thread Charlie seems to claim ignorance of the channel's demand, etc. I don't know why, but don't expect Trio to be seen on Dish any time soon as Dish has claimed it isn't being requested or it is a canadian only channel. This will have to go down with some other mysteries of the universe???
We know the reason for YES - too expensive.
But for Trio,
Dish hasnt given a real reason. Its kinda like Dish's avoidance of Baltimore DMA. We're not sure the reason why Dish doesnt have it or why they dont want it  For Baltimore, they say "We chose D.C." Fine but then they chose Harrisburg ( a smaller market) over Baltimore too.

Trio was once listed in the Dishplayer's "hidden guide" on channel 136. It was listed there for over a year. But it isn't listed any longer. I really do wonder what the deal is.
But if what I hear is true that Trio now has that IDIOTIC black (or any other color) title bar at the bottom of the screen, I will not watch it. No matter what programming is available on it.
Anyway, the story I read on some post somewhere over a year ago (how's that for verifiable information :)) is that Trio demanded that the channel be on AT50 or no go. Dish said "go suck an egg" and that was the last of it. I don't know if the story is true. Just what I remember about this.
See ya

As far as I can tell, at least when I've been watching, there's no black bar on Trio. I've watched the Sessions at 54th and the old reruns of Late Night with David Letterman (hilarious!!! great to see those old episodes...Johnny Carson was on last night), and I haven't seen the black bar at all.
Just the Trio icon in reddish-orange in the lower right corner. It's non-obtrusive (IMHO).

Trio sucks big time, I had it on my digital cable and never watched it. The only decent thing they show are the occasional reruns of David Letterman and Trio just canceled that. Letterman is off the schedule for next month. Their schedule is lame, go to their website and look. Trio just shows a bunch of weird movies all day, completely worthless.
I would trade Trio for the other channels that Dish gets that Direct doesn't. I'm still waiting for MTV Hits and Nickelodeon GAS. Style is lame, Dish can keep that one.

My sisters like that channel. Comcast carries it in analog cable, (its primarily owned by Comcast). DirecTV refuses to carry it, out of principle. DirecTV should go the extra step to drop QVC that would make a bigger statement to Comcast.
