View Full Version : Windows Firewall w/ Vista Service Pack 1?

At some point after I updated my laptop with Vista Home Premium to service pack 1 my Windows firewall stopped working. I did not notice it right away so I don't know if it happened as soon as a installed SP1 or some time after.

I have tried to turn it back on countless number of times and it just keeps saying it can not turn it on.

Any idea's how to fix this?

Thanks

Can you manually start the service? If not, you should get a more detailed reason why in event viewer. Let us know the error code from event viewer.

Even when I try to manually turn it on all it says is it can't turn it on and I don't get an error message.

Do you have norton installed? Running any other type of spyware or antivirus?

No, I am using AVG. I may have just found the problem. I will update in a few minutes.

If you go into control panel, then to administrative tools, then to the windows firewall icon....can you enable from the MMC plugin that comes up?

Thanks for the help guys. I just spent the last two hours on the phone with a Microsoft tech and it is still not working. He is having a advance tech call me tomorrow to see if he can get it to work, I doubt it.

So I am starting to think I may have to clear everything and start over. If that is the case it is not the end of the world.
