I'm looking at purchasing a SWM8 and have a few questions.

Currently, I have the four lines coming into the WB68 Multiswitch.

Here is how I am understanding the SWM8

I would connect the four feeds from the dish to the SWM8 (Removing the exiting multiswitch out of the picture). I would only need the Power Inserted at the SWM8. Off of the SWM8 I would run a single RG6 from it to a splitter (looking at the SWS4)

Off of the 3 legacy ports I would use my single run to my existing HR10-250 and R15, then from the SWS4 I would run my HR20-100 and HR20-700 (Total of 7 channels)

I just want to make sure I do not need additional hardware before I place my purchase.

Just need some clarification.

Here is really rough drawing of my thought process
Just not certain how the PI gets connected. Or do I need more than one PI? Sorry for the dumb questions!

Here's a couple of good diagrams on the hookup that you want to do;
For 4 dvr's: http://www.techtoolsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=48

For 8 dvr's: http://www.techtoolsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=50

Then just run your hr10 and r15 off the legacy ports.

The legacy outputs don't count as channels. So you have 4 channels +3 legacy. You have room for 4 additional swm tuners in this method. Further, the PI doesn't need to be directly connected to the SWM, and if you're using the sws4 or any single leg power passing splitter, the PI can be placed at one of the HR20 units, as long as it is on the power passing leg.

Basically, the SWM output is also the PI input. Power just has to be inserted somewhere along the way. It can be on the same cable, or on separate cables.

Yes your drawing will work.. just remeber to put the cap (originaly on SWM 2 port) on the output of the PI..

Could somebody explain to me what a legacy port is? Thanks.

legacy ports are for older recievers that are not ftm capable.

Think of them as three ports off a multi-switch [that don't pass the Ka-Lo signal for the new HD channels] for older non SWM receivers.

Is it correct to say then that any SD receiver is a legacy receiver?

Almost.. r16 is swm compatible IIRC..

d12 is swm compatible too.

I need a reality check. I have 2 HR20’s each connected to a Slimline dish via 125ft of buried cables [2]. It would be much easier for me to utilize both cables rather than a splitter to feed the HR20’s. House is Log and extra inside wiring is complicated.

From what I have read, the following should work. Am I on target?

Slimline Dish to > SWM-8 The 4 cables

Bedroom HR20 SAT 1 port > Powerinserter> SWM-8 port 1 out

Great Room HR20 SAT port 1> SWM-8 port 2 out

Thank You!
