View Full Version : Canceled Recordings
Ever since the baseball season started I have been recording the Milwaukee Brewers on 642 and 642-1. However, I have now had 4 games canceled from my "to do" list prior to the game starting. I haven't run into this problem since I first got my DVR over a year ago. is there something I should be doing to ensure this doesn't happen? It's very frustrating...I'm relegated to recording the game right before it starts - which will be a problem in the summer!!

How are you setting up the series recording? I have very little problems by finding the program in the guide and hitting the record button twice. I then go to the TODO Prioritizer and make custom options (such as KEEP UNTIL I DELETE) for the series. I think if you do the AutoRecordSeriesLink (ARSL) via the search command, it is more iffy.
From the program guide i pick the game and set it up to record. There are no conflicts that would cause it to not record. It's weird...

I had this same problem last night.
About an hour and a half before game time, I manually set the Red Sox vs. Detriot game to record. I even double checked the "To Do" list (I have had scheduled recordings of baseball games cancelled twice already in the last week!!). When we got home 2 hours into the game, we discovered that the recording was cancelled.
If I look into recording history, I can see that the game was scheduled to record, but it was cancelled by the viewer. Two out of the three times we have experienced this failure, there was nobody home to cancel the recording.
I called customer service and they were unable to provide an explanation or solution (other than offering to reformat the hard drive or something similar to that).
I've never posted to this board before - but I've been following it for a long time. I'm hoping that somebody might figure out the solution to this one. I'm still fuming over losing the opening day game. I can try to provide more details if it helps.

One possible explanation to this is that the Guide Data information for the ballgame was updated after you scheduled to record it. Since the new Guide Data is different, the DVR sees the ballgame as a different show and thus believes the program you scheduled to record has been canceled.
This issue is usually seen when with sporting events when the description originally does not have the teams playing specified and then later on the the program information is updated to include the teams playing.
This is just somewhat of a theory though.

Do you highlight the program in the guide then hit the record button on the remote twice? Or do you select the program and use the menu system on the upper left to setup your recordings?

But the post before yours was a manual recording which should not be effected by the guide at all. What software versions are you guys running?

I am sorry for creating confusion, but by manual recording I meant that I opened the guide, selected the game and clicked on the record button once. I may have mistaken the meaning of manual.
I thought of the possibility of the guide data changing before the game. Since this has happened to me three different times (and most recently when I set to record only 1-1/2 hours before gametime) than does that mean that the guide for MLB games is undependable if you want to schedule a recording?
It's going to be very frustrating if the only way for me to dependably record a baseball game is to be in front of the tv when the game starts.
I'm not at home right now, but will post later regarding the software version.

As far as I know when you manually record something like that, it will record whatever is broadcast on that channel for that timeslot. It does not care about the broadcast name or anything in the guide except perhaps the length of the program. This is quite different than when you do a series recording and set it up to do first run, re-run, both or whatever as that information relies on the guide to be correct. Manual recordings do not take any of that into account.
