I just became a new subscriber and have an installation set for next week. I am just a regular tv watcher. In other words, I do not have any HD or large screen fancy televisions. I ordered 2 SD dvr's and 2 regular SD receivers. I have read on the forums about different (newer?/older?) model receivers. I want to make sure that I have the newest best one available. Should I be requesting any particular model for the DVR's and regular receivers?

By the way these forums are great, especially the AAA thread. Thanks for the help.

First welsome to DBSTalk. The recievers you get depend on what models your installer has in thier warehouse. The two DVR+'s may be the newer R16, but could be the R15 if that's what they have. The standard recievers could also be D12's or D11. It just depends. At this point they all have the same UI and get regular software updates. Good luck with your install.

Also, be advised that it is possible you will receive refurbished receivers and not necessarily brand new ones. In both cases, they have 90 day warranties, after which time you would need to pay for shipping for have one replaced. There are exceptions though to the rule. For more information on commitents and receiver replacement, you can check out this thread on DirecTV Commitments (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=119756).

Note: For reference, your receivers are probably all leased as you are a brand new subscriber.

FYI, I received 2 DVR-R15-100's and 2 D11-500's

that sounds pretty standard. there is little difference in model #'s for most, just means one was made in china and another in mexico, but the software and features are usually similar if not the same.
