First time subscriber to satellite... just got in on the AAA deal and everything so HD package is going to be sweet. Few questions though before the install guy comes out Thursday:
1. My house is a brand new build finished in 2007. None of the cable in the walls are terminated and it looks like they loop? Will they run new cable or just use the cable I have already and if so, this brings me to question #2.
2. The location my TV is in is in a bad place if the person has to run new cables. The TV is against the north wall with the west wall being the outside. The wall the TV is against has a planters shelf on top so he can't just drop through the attic, which is very tight anyways. There's a possibility of running the cable from the outside through the West wall into the living room and then just have a few feet from that wall to where the TV is. Is this something the installer can/will do? Is there an extra charge for this?
3. The installer is scheduled from 4p-8p. How long does the install normally last?
4. Also, I don't know if a phone line is needed, but the phone port in the room is on the opposite side of the room. Is this necessary for Directv? I won't be using the PPV channels.
Thank you for any help!

1-Tech would most likely using existing wire (assuming they're rg-6 and are home ran to one location)
2-Lines ran from outside in are free of charge.
3-Depending on LOS,number of receivers,etc.2-4 hours more or less.
4-Nope.

Good afternoon, we recently went through a very similar situation..
We had our install done about 2 weeks ago.. I was hoping they would have been able to use the pre-exisiting wiring but alas after they spent about 40mins investigating where the wiring was run from, etc,etc.. they just couldn't use it..
They were going to just run the new wires through the attic and drill a hole through the ceiling in each of the rooms and drop/run the wire down that way..
My Fiance almost had a heart attack when they said that and I was ready to cancel the installation when they said they'd run it through the attic and drop it behind the walls and install wall jacks where I wanted them for $100, they had to do 3 walls.. needless to say, I jumped at it and gave them a nice big tip afterwards.. it took them about 5 1/2 - 6 hrs..
Good luck!
They'll use the existing cables.

They may not provide the coax type wall plates. If you don't already them, you may want to pick up a few before the install.

But save your receipt and ask them if they have any first.
They'll usually run wires in walls for an extra fee. TIP: Be very pleasant when they arrive, ask them if they're thirsty and offer them a cold drink. I've had 3 installs and all 3 were really great guys that did some extra work for free, but obviously YMMV.

True. I should have put that in there.
I supply coax wall plates with my installs but the HSP guys around here supply those ugly (in my eyes) ribbon wall plates.

I love the foreign grandmothers. I cannot tell you how many times I was "forced" to stop working and eat with the family. Some of that food was worth more than a $50 tip!!!:D
