MIAMI - Jose Canseco (news) was sent to jail Tuesday after violating his probation for a 2001 nightclub brawl.

The former major league slugger could be held until a scheduled March 17 hearing, Judge Leonard E. Glick ruled.

"I understand that I have to take responsibility," Canseco said. "I ask for the mercy and understanding of the court."

Shortly after, Glick ordered Canseco into custody.

Jose deliberately violated his parole in order to be sent to jail, he wanted this. Remember how he promised last year that he was going to write a book which was going to expose all these steroid scandals and tell the real truth about how he was blackballed out of baseball by a conspiracy of all the owners? That project wasn't going so well, but Jose had read where many of the great books in history were written by people who were incarcerated. Jose figured that the missing muse would most likely turn up for him if he was stuck in the slammer, so this whole episode was really just his dedication to fulfilling his promise of an epic eye opening work of sports literature.

My Mom had a saying.

"If Stupidity were a crime then he would get the death penalty." I think that sums it up pretty much when it comes to Jose Canseco.

Canseco has had several "2nd chances" during the past several years. He violated each of the terms of his probation and then he and his lawyer asked for "mercy and understanding".

IMO he's a lowlife who, at the moment, is right where he belongs.

Agreed, Rusty. Canseco finally found his spot in life.
