I was planning to move an old standard def DirecTV Tivo box to a bedroom, and then realized there is no phone line accessible to where I will be putting it.

On these boxes, the phone line is required to get the guide info because it comes from Tivo rather than via the DirecTV satellites, right? If so, then I guess I need to get one of those wireless phone devices so it can make its daily calls for updates.

Sorry for the stupid question, but I didn't see this specifically stated anywhere.

Thanks!
Steve

No the phoneline on the Directivo is only needed for the initial setup the guide data still comes from the sat it will bug you after awhile about making the call but the box will still work fine.

Agree with Mavrick.

I moved a SDVR40 to my patio when I upgraded to HD in Family Room. I have no problems without a phone line except for the annoying daily email reminding me that I have not made the daily call in a while.

Thanks guys! I'm pleasantly surprised - I figured it was needed since it always annoys you that it wants to make the call. I'll move it upstairs and not worry about it.

And if the nag screen bothers you, you could always take the box back to the living room once every 6 weeks or so and force a call.
