i was talking to my brother today about how much more hd hockey there is this year compared to past years. of course, the laments of blackout rules came up. then my brother said something; i don't know if he was just wishing or if he read/heard something somewhere. but, in essence, he said: what if you could pay an extra yearly fee get all the hd games that would normally be blacked out? i think that that's brilliant (depending on the cost, of course).

wuddya think? could dtv and cbc and vs and nesn and fs and the nhl and whoever else ever get a system like that in place? would you pay for that? how much would you pay?

You'll have better luck moving to Alaska, Hawaii, or North Dakota.

Anywhere that nothing is ever in your local area. :D

Seriously though, I agree with you. Blackouts should apply to standard channels. If you pay for a special interest sports package (NFLST, MLBEI,NHLCI,etc), blackouts just shouldn't happen. It's as dumb as commercials in PPVs.

Yea it is call "NHL Center ICE" .... lol .... That is how you can get it .... lol .... Well how the NHL isn't being watched a lot anymore that might be a way of getting fans to watch their games again.

Seems like a lot of people didn't even know hockey season was going on until the playoffs started.

One need only look at the poster's logo to understand the ignorance of this comment.

Hey, let's keep from getting personal here, hokay? Thanks.

My feeling is that all the major sports have to re-thing "exclusivity" and "blackouts" in light of the current era. They all could make so much money by building not only the local fan bases but the extended fan bases in a society that moves so much more than every before.

I'm a Packer fan because I grew up in Green Bay, no living in Salt Lake. I haven't changed my allegiance during my moves in and out of other teams territories. Now, the NFL gets more money from me so I can watch the Packers wherever I live. Plus I still go home and support them there.

Basically all the leagues have to decide they want to make more money together (meaning they all get more money). And listen to their customers (what a concept.) Until then, each league will loose a large potential for makin' money.

Cheers,
Tom

Hockey anymore is just Boxing on skates.

There was a time when that argument could have been almost seriously put forward. Not anymore -- not even close. Opinions differ as to whether that is a good or bad thing (I won't share mine.)
