Lakers game not on ABC NY HD

I was going to dvr the lakers and nuggets game on ABC NY HD today but it shows the papal mass coverage instead of the game. Is DTV going to put this game on HD anywhere in the NY market for the people that don't want to watch the papal mass coverage? Just curious.

The WABC-TV website says it will be on ESPN2 - check those alternate ESPN channels as well (above 209 etc.)

Thank you DTV and ABC NY for not letting me see the Lakers game in HD. They put it on alternative espn in sd which looks awful.

ESPN2 is suppose to show the game, but both Directv and Cablevision have cheerleading on. I guess at 3:30 once tipoff happens the game will come on!

Edit: I guess we won't get it in HD, it is on channel 210 on Directv! Thank you Pope!

Yeah it is kind of disappointing. Every local channel is showing the same coverage already, it wouldve been nice for them to stick with the NBA game.

Yes, it is now. I don't understand why ABC kept saying that the game was on ESPN2 when it wasn't.

It was on ESPN2, only the SD feed, at least on Cablevision. I didn't want to undo hide duplicate SD on my HR20, so never checked on D*, but Channel 210 had it.

It wouldn't be to hard to do that for a local network, but for Directv, that wouldn't happen. They weren't going to show the game on ESPN2 to everyone in the country and then take ad $ away from all the abc affiliates... That is why they put up the sd feed on an espn alternative channel for NY subs..

All in all though... that sucks!!!!

DirecTV can turn ESPN and ESPN2 on or off for specific zip codes. They do it for college football and ABC games all the time.

However, the real issue is that ESPN does not have a third HD feed. They have ESPNHD and ESPN2HD and that is it. So, there is no way the game could be on ESPN2 in HD for one region.

I should have said it in another way...

They can decided if you can receive the channel via zip code, but they can't supply different feeds to different zip coeds for the same channel like cable can. Cable can do this because they operate like a Directv spot beam channel does, and each "area" gets a separate feed and they can choose the source... Hence, why directv used an alternate channel... and the alternate channels of espn are not set up for HD... Yet...

They did the same thing on the Red Wings-Predators game on NBC4HD New York today. The game was finally started at the beginning of the third period.
