I watched the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight on HBO on Saturday on HBO.

I watch a lot of boxing, and quite a bit on HBO HD.

Normally, you can see the fantastic PQ. (i.e. you can see if the celebrity sitting 3 rows back has a crease on their shirt or not. Alright, a bit of an exageration, but not much)

Anyways, I found the PQ on Saturday horrible. It was far from the crisp, sharp, picture I was used to.

Am I just getting "desensitized" to the great PQ of a HD broadcast, or did anyone else notice this lousy PQ that watched the fight?

I watched it but it didn't jump out at me as particularly bad. Of course, that could have been me trying to block out Sly Stallone's face.....yikes!!!

Watching it I didn't notice anything that made me think it was bad HD. I must admit I kind of wish Stallone wasnt as easy to spot out, he kept jumping out on the screen throughout the fight.

Alright, maybe it was just me. I guess now a "fantastic HD" picture is now the norm.

Anyway, yes, Sly was very annoying. I've watched alot of boxing over the years, and as far as celebrities, he is rarely at any fights. As well, I'm sure both boxers really appreciated his expert advice he was yelling to them throughout the fight.

Uhhh, Sly, just because you were in a few movies about a boxer, and hosted a TV show about boxing, doesn't really make you an expert.

P.S. Was that Arnie sitting 2 seats down from Sly? It sure looked like him, but one of the ropes was exactly at his eye level so you couldn't really get a perfect look at him.

I watched on HBOW instead of HBO and the picture quality was significantly better. MPEG4 HD vs MPEG2 HD-Lite. When they show live events on HBO they also show them at the same time on HBOW. It's a good way to compare the quality.

He just looked like an excited fan to me, barking out fan stuff, not advice. I clearly saw him say "GET UP PUSSY" when hopkins was down pretending he'd been punched in the balls. next to him, Simon Cowell was doing a slow clap. Best moment of the fight.

Yup it was Arnie.

I'll have to try and watch HBO West next time.

I normally order the HBO PPV's for boxing. I wonder if they are on MPEG2 or MPEG4? I'm guessing MPEG2.

I thought it look bad too. Was not aware that the 500 HBO channels are Mpeg4.

HBOHD 501 is MPEG2. HBOW(can't remember the channel number) though is MPEG4

The PPV is MPEG 2.
