All I can say is WOW! What a season finale!

I never would have guessed that they would have killed off not one, but two characters! I think Owen was definitely one of my favorite characters on the show. I also thought that Toshiko's character was very well developed and found it interesting as we learned more and more about her.

I can't wait for Season 3 now.

It was pretty much a sure thing that Owen was a dead man. His character had become unmanageable in it's fragle state.

I thought he was handling it quite well. He knew what his limitations were and used his current state as a strength in some situations.

Neither one is dead! ;) The radiation will resurrect Owen and he will have to be rescued at the beginning of the next season. Tosh is a bit more complicated. But she is a great character and should come back. This much character change, will change the whole show. Unless this is a Dr Who plan where all the characters change every season or two.

I was SOOOOO happy when Jack and his "buddy" DIDN'T mouth kiss.

You're right - too much character turnover would change the entire dynamic of the series. I am also thankful Jack and his pal didn't tonsil box. There's having a gay character, and there's having a gay character and shoving it down your throat (pun probably intended).

It's no different than having *heterosexual* tonsil hockey shoved down your throat..

Definately with you here. While I am not usually personally offended, I find overt sexuality that is forced (hetero, homo, or whatever-o) to be needless. There are lots of movies and TV shows that feel the need to splash some nudity or force a romantic encounter into a story that otherwise doesn't need it.

Sometimes the plot calls for it... other times it is ok but not required... but a lot of times it just breaks the flow. They don't force a lunch-break scene into a movie unless there is something to be gained in terms of advancing the plot or exploring the characters... but a bit of gratuitous nudity is often thrown in when it has nothing to do with anything.

You're right - I stand corrected. Any forced sexuality that detracts from the flow of the story hurts the story.

Believe me, I love a good skin scene - but it has to be there for a reason.. When I was 17 I never thought I would hit the 30-sec-skip button when there was flesh on the screen but, now at 45, it's "ok, this is just for the shock value" most of the time I see it. There have been few, but very notable, exceptions.

OK, just watched it in HD, and I'm sad but excited at the same time for what this portends for the future.

Season 1 Episode 1 started with some Torchwood staffing changes, so it seems appropriate that there be a staffing change somewhere else along the way...

I agree that Owen wouldn't have been viable for long - not being able to heal is a big detriment to tracking down aliens.

Maybe the return of Martha Jones full time to Torchwood?

Some new character to replace Tosh?

As to tonsil hockey on TV between M-M, M-F, or F-F, what's there to complain about? No one complains about 40 minutes of violence, death, destruction and mayhem, but two guys kissing for 10 seconds? :p

Can't wait for Season 3. :)

No firm news but online forums report two potential casting changes, spoilerized for those who just don't want to know:

- James Marsters has been asked back for Season 3; I couldn't tell if just as a guest or as a recurring character or as a reguler

- Rumors say Jack may depart in Season 3; Personally, I can't see this happening. That would make it TOO Doctor Who-ish...

Keeping in spoiler mode...

Having James around could be interesting, and could help smooth the way if they can't have John in every episode. That said, I think not having Capt Jack would be a big subtraction for the show. Other characters are important too, but he is almost literally the heart of the operation.

I was thinking too that Martha Jones might return to take Owen's spot. It seemed almost as if they were "grooming" here for that spot when she was on during that story-arch. She even received a title credit for her "guest" appearance, albeit at the bottom of the screen and after the Torchwood logo appeared.

- MergI wouldn't mind if she were a regular - give Gwen a little bit of a run. Gwen really came on strong as Top Dog after Suzie ... I think it would be fun to see two willful opinionated ladies vying for Second in Command at Torchwood Cardiff.
