I am in the process of purchasing a new home where I plan to have Directv installed for my TV service. I have always had cable TV before and of course bundled the cable internet accesss.

What recommendations to you all have for high speed internet access considering costs in Atlanta, DSL Drylopp, Cable, something else? Also, I dont not need a land line.

AT&T DSL dry loop or DSL Direct, no phone needed. just make sure your address can be serviced.

I was looking into this in my area and still ended up with cable internet. Verizon Dryloop dsl was available but the cost with out home phone service ended up being so close to cable while still being less than half the rated speed it just didn't make sense. It was also going to take like 3 weeks to a month to get it hooked up.

I think the answer depends on several factors: your budget/cost of each, what you will be using it for and the throughput speed and volume you need. You may have to balance cost with speed. Cable (contrasted with dsl) tends to be fastest but more money per month. I will add that cable internet does work well with DoD. Fast downloads.

You may want to see how far you are from the local switching center for dsl... it will impact your speed... also, if a phone line is needed for dsl, get measured rate.. its like $5 a month or so... and in Cali.. its like 12$ in taxes for that $5 line... ;)

If FiOS is available, that is pretty much the best consumer level internet in America, followed by cable, then most DSL providers. I've been told that Sprint offers excellent sat-based service, but I haven't looked into it any further (it may just suck-IDK).

FIOS is by FAR the best available.

Cable.
I have DirecTV, but I subscribe to Comcast's internet service.
It actually has basic cable tv on that line as well, but I only use it as a back up to my back up.

Not trying to thread jack, but does anybody here have experience with Sprint Mobile Broadband? I was thinking of ditching my land line and DSL to try this out. The cost would be about the same, and since I don't use my land line for much of anything other than faxes, the only downside I can see would be reliability. I was planning on getting a router that is compatible with the USB mobile broadband device and using that to connect to my current home network. Anybody use this type of configuration? Anybody have any comments on speed and reliability?

My QWEST 1.5Meg DSL for $26/month works great for everything I use it for.

If I ever think I need more speed I can upgrade to their 7Meg service for about $10 more per month.
