I just finished playing some COD 4 on my PS3 and switched over to see what was on TV and got a software downloading screen. Popped over here and was expecting to see the discussions threads for the new software updates but couldnt find anything about them being available other than through the CE window last weekend. I did not restart the DVR or anything like that, it just downloaded it. Was this supposed to be available?

I'm downloading it right now as well (Los Angeles 1am PST).

It's downloading now as I type, I'm guessing. I'm hearing my HR21 reboot and thrash it's drive, started at 1am

edit:yeah, it's x22b. Too early to tell, and maybe it's because I'm really tired, but the menus seem a little snappier than before.

Something happened to my wifes Hr20-700 last night. Turn it on and it said acquiring guide data. had trouble re-booting receiver. Took 3 trys. Didn't give it a thought about update as they usually do it on week-end and at night. Check later when I get home. Also, west coast always gets any upgrade first, so probably just her receiver. My HR20-700 has been working great and didn't have any problems last night.

Is this the same software that is still fubar per reports in the CE forum?

Yes, this is the same software that was in the last CE.

My experience is that this software is one hell of a lot better than the current national release. It has cured all my ills.

And I don't think there is a software released in the history of man that somebody hasn't had problems with.

How about audio dropouts?

Absolutely none for me and I was having audio problems before.

I'm using both the HDMI and Toslink outputs for audio.

how about all the reports of severe GUI slowdowns?

Has enough time really passed to make sure that the recording permissions issues were truly fixed?

This just seems like a rush to me, a little bit of Go fever so to speak. It is not like it would have killed them to wait another full week.

Please report all issues in the appropriate thread for your receiver. According to my morning reports, HR20-series are still on 0x01FE, while HR21-700 and HR21-100 are on a staggered release and HR21-200 / HR21Pro should have all received 0x022b.

Out of the what 1,000 people that downloaded the CE... a small handfull of people reported GUI slowdowns? And even then... compared to what? Somethng that is slow for one, may have other factors to it... or could be perception.

And if they know the reason for recording permission failures... and they fixed it... then yes... enough time has passed for DirecTV to be confident that it is fixed, and that is good to go.

As for being "rushed"... what point do you say the version is good enough to be released... comparing it's own issue state, and then comparing it to the national release (which this code is a LOT better then the national version as of yesterday)... And against what they want to get going on with the unit.

We go through this every consideration version... there are a ton of factors that go into making the final call on the version.
