View Full Version : DP301 signal meter modified
Just noticed that the signal meter has been changed for the DP301. A message pops up when I check signal strength. Strength bars are much lower, but signal is not lost until bar is much lower, so nothing has really changed. Kind of strange that the scale still goes to 125. Anyone have any idea why they did this?

The call center wasn't busy enough. :)
Just kidding ... the main reason was standardization --- making a "60" on 119° as good as a "60" on 129° so people wouldn't freak over the lower levels on some satellites (even though that was the best they could do).
They should have made "100" the expected signal and allowed the scale to drift high for better than expected. When the question was asked on the March Charlie Chat, Charlie Ergen agreed. :)
And yet, we still have a scale of 0-125 with 70 apparently being the top. :D

Thanks for that info James on the new signal meter.
My DP301 on my DIsh NOW!/YA! setup is modified as well, and for the life of me I could not tell what the heck a "GOOD" or "REALLY GOOD" signal would be.
On the old signal meter I was usually able to get 119/110 on transponder 11(this is the one they tell me within the instructions to use to aim. Others have posted disagreements that it should be that transponder) to range between 110 and 120 on the signal meter.
Now, it usually between 52 and 62 on the NEW meter, and I had no idea if that was any good or not.
Your post that 70 is the max on the NEW meters is actually topping out made me feel real good about my my Dish pointing/setup.
