I've been with Dish since 2001 and decided to stick with them for my HD needs. I currently have a 721 & a 501. Anyhow, after reading this forum & researching a little, I decided to get a 722 & a 612. I have 2 HDTVs. Anyhow, I called and talked to the CSR and tried to play the "I was going to sell my 721, but now it's worthless" card (which is actually true, BTW). I was hoping for discount, but nothing I could do would sway her.

Anyway, we complete the transaction & and she takes my CC number and was giving me the "thanks for calling Dish" bit. I said "wait, when is the install?" She said "Oh, that will be a $100" I said "I just spent $200 on upgrade fees and now you want me to spend another $100 for a second dish?" She then said "no, I am going to go ahead and give you 50% off today, is that ok?" Of course, I'm like "that'd be great." Then the CSR proceeded to set up the install.

Anyhow, I check both my CC statement online and my Dish account and they both verify only $100 was charged. I wonder why I got a discount after all of my questioning surrounding the 721 only managed to get me an offer of $10 for the receiver? Also, this occurred after I gave my CC number. If I had known I was getting a great deal (relatively) I would have gotten 2 722s.

Anybody else experience something like this lately?

Sounds like she screwed up but screwed up in a good way. :)

Did you talk to one of those 5 star CSR's or a regular one? If they are a 5 star, they can discount you more than the average CSR.

Just anyone who answered the 800-333-Dish line. Pressed 8 to upgrade my receiver. Then tried to negotiate. If she were 5-star, it was a random chance I got her.

Had my install this morning. Everything went good, got a 722 and a 612 like the CSR promised. The only thing that went wrong was the 612 would not activate easily. It took the installer 3 calls to Dish and about 45 minutes of switch checks. I thought the receiver might be defective, but it eventually activated.

Although the CSR didn't tell me, I had to sign a 2-year agreement. This is fine with me as I expected it, but could have been a source of frustration for people. After the installer left, I switched to HD Only (w/ Cinemax $.01). Also canceled my DHPP. Is there any reason to spend $5 a month on rented receivers?

While I, too, would like more HD, I think the HD only pack is a GREAT deal. Heck, I would have switched to this pack if it were SD only. Good variety of channels with some of the most popular. No music channels to jack up the channel count. I, for one, am a happy Dish customer. 90% satisfied with Dish, more HD would put me at 100%, but listening to this forum, seems like most people are jumping ship or thinking about it.

Cheers!

At this point, I don't see any logical reason to dump Dish soley because of the lack of HD. There aren't really any other high demand true HD channels out there besides ESPN News, SPEED, FX, and Fox's news networks. I'd love to get all of these but I can live without them for the time being. . .
