I have new 1tb WD My Book connected by esata to HR20-700 but it doesn't identify new drive. (Did reboot/unplug after connecting esata drive). I then connected the drive to my computer and it is working, but is indicated as being formatted in FAT32. Does anyone know what I need to do to get this to work with my DirecTV receiver?

It's been discussed before here - none of the WD My Book eSATA units work with the HR2X series DVR. You may want to check here for further information.

There are many other eSATA drives that work fine. Sorry. . .

Your first post. Too bad you didn't find this forum before you went to the trouble of getting a drive that didn't work. I was lucky enough to read the threads about external drives before I wasted any time or money on something that might be problematical. There are lots of people on this forum who share some great information that can save you a lot of time and trouble.

And :welcome_s , as noted above the My Book doesn't work with the DIRECTV HD DVRs. Sorry that you didn't know this before purchasing. Please keep asking questions and hopefully we can help you have a more pleasurable experience in the future.
