I'm glad you shared and I'm glad "you must love the little birdies to give them this to perch on" (reference, anyone? Anyone?)

And cute/sweet is very rarely off topic. :)

Cheers,
Tom

Well done.

And the Local HD he will get is his (very) local Nature Channel, of course. :)

You know, the local newspaper might be interested in that picture, btw.

Cheers,
Tom

That is great Tom, I could not come up with a better answer!!

Interesting thought about the newspaper, I'll have to check that out. I know if nothing else one of our local TV stations (KUSA) has an online photo gallery.

If it poops on your dish, it is a Dish Operative.

Birds seem to find every nook and cranny around my house to build nests. :)

They (birds) will always find new and innovative places to nest............. :)

I missed the egg stage, I saw them a couple times but by the time I grabbed a camera Mom was back. Having observed for the past few weeks a wall mount dish is an ideal nesting place, easy access but the dish itself shields the nest from the weather (which we've had some of)

Yeah, don't want to detach the LNB from the arm of the ODU and have angry (ang stinging) bees/wasps/hornets come after you.

Cool photos - I just found a nest built in my shed in one of my parts boxes - five red speckled eggs in it.

what kind of bird is it? be very careful about newspaper and drawing attention to it. depending on what it is and where you are you may not ever be able to realign that dish.
up where I am if a barn swallow built one I would have to leave it for its natural life. we had to get special permission to remove them in the aircraft hangar and that took an act of God.

don't take me the wrong way, I like animals and do whatever I can to attract them here at home, but just be aware.

Have a gas dryer with a vent horizontal to the outside. The cover fell off, and a bird built a nest INSIDE the dryer, using the 4' vent tube for access.... Couldn't dry clothes for two months til the little birdies finally flew off, then took me hours to get all the grass and straw out of the dryer...and install a vent cover !

Had a similar sitiation in the past;

http://www.dbstalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8119&d=1178039282

Also, had a piece of siding fall off over the window, in our back yard, years back. In the spring, before we noticed it, some birds broke thru, and build a nest inside the bulkhead in our cabinets. Drove our cats absolutely insane, hearing the birds in our walls.

The only day I've had trouble with my signals was warm and dry. No wind, just a beautiful day. I went outside to visually inspect my slimline, and there was a FAT-assed dove perched on the tip of the LNB unit. I went for the camera, but it was gone when I came back. I guess doves don't like the Cincy Reds?

I had some birds try to build a nest in the same place on my dish but I caught them in the act (of building the nest) and threw their nest over the balcony (and a second nest that different birds try to build on the other side of my deck two weeks later). Understand, though, I'm not an animal hater or anything, I've just had my issues with birds on my deck (and in case you were wondering, the birds had yet to lay their eggs):

I live on the third floor of a condo, and the second spring living here I had birds nest on my deck, and once the babies were hatched I couldn't go out on my deck without being divebombed by the birds. I couldn't grill, sit and enjoy the sunset, or even open the door without them attempting to take off my head. The next spring I noticed them as they were building their nest, and managed to destroy their attempts. They kept at it for a while and finally gave up and moved somewhere else. Last year no birds tried to nest, but I did have a frequent visitor who would relax on my grill, which is in front of a window, and then proceed to ram into the window, as if his reflection was another enemy bird. Over and over and over and over again. As you can imagine, this was very annoying, especially because it mostly happened early in the mornings and would wake us up. Not to mention it crapped all over my grill cover and deck. This year, the same bird returned, but it only stayed for a couple weeks, so not as much of a mess or annoyance. Apparently he didn't find himself as threatening as last year. And then I had the previously mentioned two different sets of birds try to make nests on the deck again. I think I've rid myself of the bird problem for this year, but I can't wait for what next year brings!

Don't know why it took me so long to read this...

of course that's Roxanne written and spoken by the great Steve Martin. (Doh! I see I was beaten to the punch!)

How about the quote, "Anyone, Anyone", which was spoken to great effect by Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

have not had to chase birds off yet, but once had to railroad a cat. PM me if you are curious.
