View Full Version : HDMI = No YPbPr

We went through our hardware swap in the last week and I am sorting through a few issues. From everything I read, I was under the impression that the HR 20s and 21s allow simultaneous output of HDMI and YPbPr, but every time I insert an HDMI cable I lose my component output. I was given an HR21-100 and it is configured to output only 1080i. Both monitors accept 1080i via component or HDMI, but only one signal at a time.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to give the same monitor or tv both, or are you using 2 different?

I've used dual HDMI and component connections for quite some time.
What can happen is the HDMI device might not allow a resolution that your component device can handle. Or, sometimes the HDMI handshake fails (usually because of a problem on the TV side of things, they are notorious for not being compatible) so the resolution might not be what you expect.
You might try allowing 480p and 1080i for a test, then use the resolution button on the front panel to switch to see if a combination works for you.
Oh, and be careful to have Native mode off for testing.
Cheers,
Tom

2 separate monitors that both accept 1080i, within 2 seconds of plugging the hdmi cable the YPbPr stops putting out a signal.
I will try enabling another resolution and do some testing. I appreciate the input.

Yes, and like Tom said, for your testing turn off native to eliminate any internal confusion. I am curious as to how this turns out. It does seem possible I suppose, somehow the handshake tells the HR to quit the other output.

Kinda off-topic, but can you use the components and HDMI to do PiP if your TV supports? Well, actually, is it possible to control the tuners independently, I guess? I can get the same channel side-by-side. Oh, to the OP, both work simultaneously on mine (HR21-700), and worked on the former 100 I had.

from what I've read there's no way to control tuners separately.

I have both an HR21 and HR20 hooked up via component to one TV (Mits 52" LCD) and HDMI to another TV (Sony 46" XBR LCD). Both DVRs work with both TVs simultaneously - both have "native" turned on.
