Each movie has it's price listed when ordering. 90% of the time a standard def PPV movie is $3.99 and a high def version is $4.99. There are exceptions though, older features that are getting ready to leave PPV may be put on sale.

Is there an additional charge based on how it was ordered (remote, via phone or networking or web)?

By remote or on DirecTV.com: no extra charge.
By the automated phone system: $1.50 extra.
By a CSR: $5.00 extra.

Remote: Via Phone or Networked are the same price.
Web: Same price as Remote via Phone/Network
Calling in... extra $5 I believe

They add a surcharge if you order by talking to a representative. All other options have no additional charge. IMHO, remote is best, but you need a phone line or ethernet connection. Next best is the web, since it authorizes the movie for all boxes on your account, not just the one you're ordering from.

No big secret. The price is on the website, go to TV Listings, click on the ppv you want and the info including the price appears.:)

or,
Under PPV > View All > Click on "Order Now" and the price appears.

PPV is a major price gouging. how can blockbuster rent me a blueray disc for cheaper, and also give the local teens a job so they don't steal my beer? Also I can watch the disc for a week if I want, not limited to 24 hours. I can even let a friend watch it or take it with me! I haven't ordered PPV since the price went up from 3 bucks, still to expensive. Even netflix is cheaper. I am sick of buying solid gold toilets for DTV VP monkeyholes.

I like PPV. I don't mind the 24 hour limit, it's convenient, and for five bucks I get an evening of entertainment without having to leave the recliner. Everyone's entitled to their opinions and can use it or not use it as they see fit.

Absolutely - ALL about convenience. I almost bought my first PPV in over a year this last weekend because the wife was out of town, and I didn't want take my 7 year old son out in my open Jeep to rent a movie at Blockbuster after having had 6 beers. I would have gladly paid the five bucks, and the 24 hour limit. Unfortunately, there wasn't squat we wanted to watch, playing right into my second pet peeve - the garbage Hollywood is cranking out lately.

About that 24 hour limit...here's a question for ya. On Saturday we bought Bee Movie in HD. We recorded it and watched it...in fact my son then watched it again that night. It had an expiration date of sunday 4/27....i assumed on Sunday i would see that it deleted itself...instead what it did was extend itself. It now has an expiration date of 5/11 and is still sitting on our dvr for our viewing pleasure. What's up with that?

Have you actually tried watching it again or just looked at the date in the list? I don't know exactly how the 24 hour thing works since I haven't rented a PPV since the limit was imposed.

I had a similar experience. My wife ordered a movie on Friday (4/25) and watched it to the point the credits started rolling. On Sunday night (more than 48 hours after she ordered it) I saw it sitting in the List so I decided to see if it played. It did play. No problem at all. It started right where she left off in the credits. It didn't kick up any message about additional cost or anything like that to watch it again. I checked my account and it only has the one charge for 4/25.
Maybe DirecTV is giving a grace period to get people use to the new system.
If you are going to get more than 3 PPV's a month go here instead.

Directv software. Not a tivo. And yes it plays just fine...it just now expires 5/11...so my kids have watched it a couple more times...i even dubbed a copy off to dvd.
We have netflix, and it is a much better value then ppv...we only use ppv in those spontaneous "hey lets watch a movie" moments.

Actually, I'm about ready to drop NetFlix. The DVD Play Kiosk in the local Safeway seems to have a plentiful supply of current releases at $1.70 each. I picked up "There Will be Blood" and "The Valley of Elah" over the weekend. Both have been in my NetFlix queue since their release date (over 2 months for one and one month for the other) and I got sick of waiting.
