In the last couple of days, my IE6 running on Win 98 is doing something weird. Whenever I click on a link and it opens a new window, nothing happens, it just stays as a blank window, like its trying to load. I don't have any pop up stopper software installed. Any ideas guys? This is becoming a real pain in the butt.

Thanks.

Probably has more to do with win 98 than IE6. I'd update my OS if I were you

Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling IE yet?

It is impossible to uninstall IE4 or later or WIN95 and it cannot be remoed from WIN98 and above at all. You attempt to delete IE, make sure you have the Windows installation disc or factory restory CDs handy :) You could try to repair IE by insalling it on top of itself, I find using the repair function for anything is as about as helpful as Clippy from Office.

I tried reinstalling IE, but setup won't even start since it says I have a newer version installed. Is this because I have SP1 installed?

You can try searching google for your specific problem and might find an answer there.
Win98 has the ability to get really screwed up sometimes. There are a bunch of special run commands that make repair things or do something. Like rundll23.exe {lots and lots and lots of characters here} to fix things. ;) I don't even remember any of them because it took forever to find the solution (hours or days even) and about 30 seconds and a reboot to fix it. Microsoft doesn't make finding the solutions for problems easy sometimes either.

Actually I might know what your problem is.
Have you updated things in the last 2 weeks? (windows update) The last IE6 security fix screwed up IE6 so it wouldn't open some pages I think. I have XP and heard about this, then noticed an update a few days later. Well the next day there was another update that fixed the problem. Doesn't really matter to me though because I've been using Opera for the last 2 weeks. Anyway, you might want to do the update thing again if that's what's happened.

:hi:

I have updated the latest security fix, and now when I try to download the newest fix, it gets hung up. I'll have to see if there is a manual way to download the newest fix.

Thanks.

Microsoft does have a site where you can download fixes and other patches manually. However, I forget the website's URL. I used to use this when updating my Windows 98 system, but since I upgraded to Windows XP, I let Microsoft send me the fixes automatically. I found upgrading manually to be okay, but it was a big hassle.

I found a site with a download fix from MS, and believe it or not, it actually worked. Thanks for the input guys.
