View Full Version : Camcorder record time
I am looking at the flash drive camcorders, can someone tell me there record time? For example if i get a 4BG card for the camcorder. How much video will it record per quality SD vs HD.

I'm sure if you look at the specs for the product it will give you the record time per gig. For instance, this one's (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120239) specs:
Maximum recording time: 8 GB SDHC Card
LP (5 Mbps) 3 hours
SP (7 Mbps) 2 hours 20 min
XP+ (12 Mbps) 1 hour 25 min
FXP (17 Mbps) 1 hour -Allows 1920 x 1080 Full HD Recording

Yeah, it really depends on the camera and what compression codec is being used and how it's being used.
Also, make sure whatever video editor you're using supports the camera - for example, Premiere Elements doesn't support AVC HD, whch is quite common.
so with having to buy the memery cards is it a better deal to get a hard drive camcorder? money wise

If I were buying a camcorder today I'd be looking at flash memory models. Hard drives can fail (especially if they're being jostled around a lot) and MiniDV tapes are a hassle (which is what we currently own)
