I have a really nice HD capable TV that I can get good OTA HD channels with through my current DISH HD receiver which has an ATSC tuner. Does the current Standard receiver that DirecTV uses have an ATSC tuner that I can use similarly or will I have to get a separate tuner if I want to just get the Standard service? Thanks.
The people on the phone who sell DirecTV just make stuff up like telling me all their receivers will work when I know some of the newer HD receivers do not have ATSC tuners.

No... None of the DirecTV SD receivers have an ATSC tuner in them.

The H20 has ATSC
The HR20 has ATSC
The HR21 will need the AM21
The H21 has no ATSC option at this time.

Thanks for your response. That pretty much tells me what I need to know. Sounds like I should just get a stand alone tuner regardless as I won't be able to get one without waiting for the AM21 and getting the HR21 which I don't really need. Is their standard receiver Ok or are they going to phase them all out anytime soon?

Yes and No.

Yes, DirecTV is phasing out SD receivers... for installation... (ie, you won't be able to get one).

No, DirecTV is not phasing them out... (ie, they are not turning off the ones that are already installed)

Sorry to keep bothering you. Does the SD receiver really only have composite output? Does that mean that I will likely get an inferior picture compared to what I now get with component inputs to my TV? Thanks.

The current SD receivers (D10,11,12, R15&16) have:
S-Video
Composite
RF ch/34

Can anyone advise if the older SD receivers are "Digital" or analog. I have a few Hughes units and was wondering if I will need to replace when we go to all digital.
Thanks

You don't need to replace anything. The box will output NTSC (analog) ch 3/4 until the box dies.

They are fine for the transition just the OTA input won't work anymore.
