My building is scheduled to get the MFH2 upgrade this month, but I haven't gotten a straight answer re: what receivers actually work on it. The building has been on MFH1 for 4 years, and there are naturally a lot of older receivers present.

Q: Will older equipment still work under MFH2, even if they do not receive the new channels?

MFH2 is the SWM which only works on HR20/21, h20/21 and the r15/16 if memory servers. Any of the threads about SWM will have this info.

The only SWM-compatible dish is the 5LNB dish from DIRECTV. The following is a list of SWM-compatible receivers:

HR20-100 through HR20-700
HR21-100 through HR21-700
H20-100 through H20-700
H21-100 through H21-700
R16-100 through R16-700
D12-100 through D12-700
D13-100 through D13-100

Thanks...just learned that they're going to run MFH1 and MFH2 concurrently, cutting users over to the new system as requested. Saves me a headache!

That is the smart way to do it. Give the customers the option to switch over and not force people to switch over if they are not interested in upgrading. Its cheaper on the customers and sometimes for the system operator.

I live in an MDU building in downtown Chicago that is being upgraded to MFH2 on Monday the 5th. I have both and R15 and hr20. I believe that they are running both mfh1 and mfh2 because some unit owners have older receivers. IF i want to get the new hd channels will i only be able to have mfh2 running to my unit making my r15 worthless?

I do not know if mfh2 is incompatible with the R15. If it is, you can always move to the R16 for the SD DVR (it is SWM compatible).

The R15 is not compatiable at all with the MFH2 system. So in most cases it is an all or none type situation.

The only way that would be the case is if your building has two cables pulled to each unit and each cable goes back to TV closet. Many buildings use to have two cables pulled for the HD, usually one black and one white. One was for standard definition and one was for the basic High Definition. If you had two cables pulled your SO could put your R15 on the stacked system or MFH1 and your HR20 on the MFH2 system.

I prefer this, when available, because it benefits the customer. They are not forced to purchase all new equipment and they are never completly down. If a chassie crashes or a SWM goes bad you should have your stacked signal still up until the MFH2 is fixed, at least giving you something.

But that all of course depends on how many cables you have pulled. I would check with your System Operator or building engineer.

The H20-600 can be troublesome for SWM uses. I have one and have had significant 771 messages. Given the choice, I would not recommend an H20-600 in a SWM set up. YMMV
