on Ebay when (if) the 921 ever comes out. They seem to sell for a decent amount but is there something in particular people are looking for in the Dishplayers. If so what exactly so I know if it is worth it to sell the thing otherwise I will just keep it as a backup unit

John,

We have to be honest with you. Most of the DishPlayer that are sold on eBay are bought by hackers (mainly in Canada) that use them for stealing DISH Network or ExpressVu (Canadian DBS) service. The buyers are looking for receivers with a cards that can easily be modified but some of them don't really care about the cards. It is a sad (but honest) state of affairs concerning the DishPlayers. I wish that DISH could (or would) do something to knock out all the illegal DishPlayers. I have seen some figures that say that there are between 50,000 and 100,000 "modified" (hacked) DishPlayers but I have no idea of how realistic those numbers are. I wish that DISH would have a trade-in programs so they could get all of them so that the crooks could not buy them.

I sold my Dishplayer last week for $265.00 on Ebay. I consider it a small reward for having to suffer with the DP for almost 3 years.

Quite frankly I think that hacking is Dish's problem. Sell your Dishplayer and get the money while you can.

I agree - I don't care what they do with it especially if they pay me big bucks for it. If I could get $265 for it I would be happier than a pig in ****, I only paid something like $150 for it - plus the 40gig hd.

Don't get me wrong - I hate the hacking crap. I have lots of friends that have cards for D* and tell me I should switch and do it but I'd rather pay the monthly fee and not have to worry about ECM's etc..... seems like the are always waiting for a new card. Of course I do not like the stealing part either. I get the everything pack, locals and supers along with a few recievers so my bill is pretty steep but if somebody has to pay in order for these companies to stay afloat.

I'm with you 100%. I've even been paying the 9.99/month fee to enjoy the bugs.

Dish should be offering us $50 508's or $150 721's. Since they're not, Sell em' if you got em'.
