I hate to say it....but the cable company is offering a better deal than what dish can to for me right now...They just started adding local HD channels and with the cable modem ($10.00 bucks cheaper a month) dish can't come close. It pains me but I didn't buy the 53" widescreen to just watch DVD's and dish through s-video...

Well if it suits your needs better it is exactly what you should do.

I don't blame you. If you can save money, go for it!

Try putting your DISH subscription on hold for $5/MO. for a month or two and see if cable really is your answer. It is cheaper than the $25.00 reconnection fee and paying two months of service up front again.

It is a pitched battle right now... cable companies putting in cable modems and HDTV. I bet the win back a lot of DBS people. I watch my cable rates all the time even with Dish... no HDTV and still $40/month more than DBS. I use the 6000s to pick up OTA HDTV.

BEfore you leave dish, I would look at the details of your local cable comp. Make sure it's not just an introductory program. I know my cable comp has great INTRO deals, but after that it sucks & so does the service. I have charter, my cable rate went up by $10 dollars!!!

I don't blame you one bit, if my cable company fixed up its Digital Cable offerings and offered a good HD package I would have a hard time staying with Dish.

I already have a cable modem and it works GREAT!

AT100 with HBO 49.99 + Locals 4.99 = 54.98 + Cable modem 44.95 (been paying this for a year now) = 99.93 **If I want HD looking at what 500 bucks for a outdated HD ird without pvr**

Digital Cable (same programming as AT100) along with *6 HD Channels*(one being HBO) and HBO = 57.10 + Cable modem 34.95 = 92.05 **no equipment charges**

Take away the locals with dish and it still doesn't beat cable = 94.94

Now I know this is just my situation. The only thing that is pushing towards cable is the HD programming...Like I said before I didn't buy the 53" widescreen to just watch DVD's and dish through s-video...

What is this about reconnect fees and 2 months service up front?

Are you telling me that if I leave Dish, they are going to give me a hassle to come back? That is rediculous, they should be welcoming me back with open arms, not trying to punish me.

I am sorry, I must not have understood properly. Please explain this bit to me.

I ask because I am considering leaving Dish for Direct and would like to know the full impact of that decision if I choose to go that way.

I think one reason they charge a reconnect fee is to try to persuade you not to disconnect and come back later, but just to stay on the whole time, and there being a cost to disconnect and come back would cause some to stay on and not switch to another service and keep their bill paid on time and so forth. I think sometimes you can get some of those fees waved.

I don't know what some think around here, But I switched to D* a little while back and I couldn't be happier, best move I made in a while. When I canceled E* the CSR told me that there would be a $25.00 reconnect fee when I decided to come back, And I told them not to look forward to the $25.00 because I will not be coming back.

It is extremely unlikely that I would return to Comcast... or is it AT&T Broadband.... or is it Comcast again this week. Three simple letters: PVR.

I may, however, switch from Dish to DirecTV, but only for pricing and equipment reasons. Will miss the supers though.

I have considered switching to DirecTV from DISH but each time, the channel lineup and confusion about their multi-sat service keeps me from doing it. The "free equipment" they sell is still, only single-sat. I know you can get a Para Todos system to look at more than one location, but two calls to DirecTV's customer service still keep telling me that there are no additional programming services except more spanish channels on their other bird?!?!?

The only reason I went to DISH three years ago was because at the time, I lived in an apartment complex on the edge of the furtherst suburb in the metro area and they signed some STUPID ass 30-yr contract with a "cable company" to be the sole provider of cable service to the complex. This "cable company" was actually just some independant contractor who was reselling it's c-band access. So I wasn't even able to get the regular AT&T Broadband service.

I had at first tried subscribing to DirecTV but when the guy came to do the installation, it turned out that I could not see the 101 bird, so he told me that I shoudl call dish b/c He could see 110, 119 and 148 with this sat finder. So I called Dish and it just worked out better, and their deal was much better than DirecTV. It wasn't until I'd had the service for a while that i learned that DISH has more channels than DirecTV (still does) and that it was a bit cheaper. Both services are still much less expensive than digital cable. Might I add that Digital cable also STILL doesn't package their premiums like Satellite. Last time I checked, if you ordered Showtime, you only got like 3-4 channels and DID NOT get TMC, Flix, and Sundance. I am still loving the "east" and "west" feeds of Showtime :-)
