View Full Version : Question on Selling an R10?
I've got an R10 (mine not leased) that kept freezing and was replaced. I suspect it's a hard drive issue. Not being one that has ever cracked the case to change things, I thought about sellng it on Ebay. My question is, should the card go along with it AND does DTV recognize the card to whomever may purchase it?
If selling it with the card is an issue, then I'll just scrap it. I know I will not get much to begin with, but it's worth it if someone can get something.

Do not send the card. If someone buys it they will need to order a new card from DIRECTV for $20.
Thanks, I recalled that from posts I have read over time. Just wanted to make sure.

DirecTV access cards are assigned to a specific PERSON and ACCOUNT.
If a receiver is sold to another PERSON or is to be activated on a different ACCOUNT, it must have a new access card. The access cards are NON-TRANSFERABLE.
If the equipment is not leased and it is sold, DirecTV will send a new access card for it to the new owner for a very reasonable fee which includes overnight shipping.

Really it depends on who you talk to. I got an R10 & card from a friend, and when I called D* to activate, the first CSR said, no, you need a new card. So politely ended the conversation, and called back. This time asking for Tech Support, told them what I had & that I wanted to transfer the unit and the card, and in less then 5 minutes, I had service, and have been using it for some time now.
I always hear that it cannot be done, but I've done it twice now, and no problems. They also tried to tell me I could not transfer the card from my D11 to another unit, and they wanted the $20.00, so I did the same thing, and it worked just as easily as before.
Some CSR's do not have the authority, and the automatic answer is "It cannot be done", go up the tier to someone else and try your luck.

I sold my r10 on ebay recently (end of February )after deactivating it. csr told me to send card with the unit.
the buyer asked for, and received, all pertinent info from me. csr told him he would need the card too.
so I sent the card, he called and activated it the day it arrived with no problems and no new card.
this is what drives me insane with D*, absolutely no continuity in their rules as interpreted by the csr.
