Hi,
Yesterday, I attached a new (10 foot)1.3 HDMI cable to my HR20-700 in place of an older (6 foot) 1.1 cable and there was no video or audio output from the sat box. I tried the 1.3 cable with my HR20-100 and it works flawlessly...I also tried the HR20-700 with the original 1.1 cable attached to 3 different TV's and 2 different AV receivers (sony STR5100ES and JVC RX 410S) ....still no HDMI output at all. The component and optical audio work fine however...I called D* and the CS rep told me this was a known problem (HDMI disabling) since the latest software update last week (022b which both the 20-100 and 20-700 have). Does anyone know if the HDMI port on the HR20-700 can be "re-enabled", if not, than I probably have to get a new HR20-100, but will lose all the recordings on my HR-700.

I also had a FAP Pro 750 GB attached when I switched out cables.

Any ideas? Earl??

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

First thing I would try is a reset(restart receiver) with the new HDMI cable attached. If that doesn't work then disconnect the FAP so you don't lose the recordings and do a reset all. This is the first I have heard of this "known" problem.

Found this post back in 9/07:

This happened to me as well about 2 months ago. Tried a new HDMI cable, reset the reciever, you name it, I tried it. The only thing that worked was dumping everything out. Restoring to factory defaults. I lost all my recordings but that was not as important as to watching my TV. That was my last option before calling DTV. If you don't hold much value to your recordings, I suggest you try it.

I forgot to mention that I did do a RBR and powered down both the FAP and the HR20-700 multiple times before...all to no avail... I also tried to reset to factory defaults with no success...this (in addition to hanging a brand new Toshiba 57lx177 on my family room wall) took all Saturday to try fixing. Very frustrating!!

No idea... Your FAP shouldn't play into the equation.
The cable... is just a cable. It being HDMI 1.3 just mean's it has been certified to carry that particular variation of HDMI...

Later on today, I can try my new HDMI 1.3 cable on my HR20-700 but I am on the latest CE... and I also go to a HDMI->DVI converter on mine as well.

Any particular reason why you must use the new cable and not the old one?
Are you moving the unit 4 feet further away?

Yes, I am moving the unit a few feet further awaysince the tv is now up on the wall...BUT I tried using the original 1.1 HDMI cable (as well as 2 other 1.1's) without success..like I said this took up my entire Saturday.

Could the HDMI port itself be damaged?? It looks fine to me, I didn't force the cable in or orient it incorrectly.

I just got a new HDTV that has HDMI inputs. My previous set only had Component. I have connected a DVD player, 10-250, and HR20-700 all via HDMI everything works fine except the HR20-700. I hooked it up using component and looked at all the settings--everything looks OK. I swapped the HDMI cable from the 10-250 to the 20-700 with no luck. I tried changing the resolutions my TV will accept and nothing seems to get the HDMI working. Any suggestions?

Sorry... missed that.

Then yes, the port may have been damaged somehow.

Yes, either on the HR20 or the TV itself. Those pins are tiny and can be very easily bent or worse broke off. It can be very hard to see a pin thats missing.

might try removing the HDMI cable then unplugging the
power from both the HDTV & receiver for a few minutes...
reinstall the HDMI then plug the HDTV then the receiver
back into power...sounds like a handshaking prob to me

Can the hr20-700 and/or hr20-100 display a picture on through the hdmi and component video at the same time? I ask this so that if I try to power on the hr20 AFTER I reinstall the HDMI ( if it is a handshake problem) I would rather not have to disconnect (and then possibly reconnect) the component cables....also I would like to compare the PQ between the 2....the Hdmi looked sharper than component to my eye.

Thanks, kevin
