I sometimes get a delay in receiving a signal when I switch to a local channel with my HR20. Sometimes it takes 15-30 seconds for the picture to appear. What causes that?

it seems to be an issue with the HR20 it self. Rebooting might help just a bit

Yes, that is a little excessive for a channel change. Like Curt8403 said try a reboot of the receiver and see if that helps. What software version are you on?

yes, good point, there was a download a month or so back that caused delays in operation. please check, and post your software version

I just received 0x022B about a week ago, BUT, I was having this problem before that. I did a RBR last weekend because the unit wouldn't turn on, so that hasn't helped. And it's not every time I change to a local channel, just about half of the time. One thing I haven't verified is if it only happens on the HD locals.

Let me guess something...Native on and using HDMI?

Try turning Native off first, that should help.
Also try using Component with Native off and see if that helps.

If you still have the same problems then you may have a bad receiver.
If the problems go away then your TV may have quite a delay via HDMI syncing the signal with Native on and there probably isn't much you can do about that. Although you should see if there is a firmware update for your TV that might address it.

What he says :D

I gave up on native on after a six month experiment with it. Marginal theoretical image quality improvements were trumped by handshaking and resolution changing times. Channel changing faster now, although, if your 15-30 seconds is honest-to-God truth, I think you have something wrong somewhere else....

Native is off, using HDMI.

15 - 30 seconds may be a dish alignment issue. What are your signal strengths? When you say locals are you talking about OTA signal coming from an antenna or the DirecTV supplied locals via the dish?

I get my locals from the dish. I'm not familiar with all the satellite/transponder stuff. I know how to check them, I just don't know which ones to check.

Sometimes I can scan through the locals and they come up pretty quickly, or some of them will and others won't. Sometimes it's taking more than 30 seconds.

Sounds like your BBC might be bad. Call Directv and have them send you two new ones, and see if that fixes the problem.

Do you notice if when you also switch b/w one of the newer MPEG-4 HD channels and your MPEG-4 HD locals, too? Just curious if its an MPEG-4 issue after changing from an MPEG-2 channel.

Well, you got me there. I don't know which channels are MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. If you can give me a couple of examples I'll check it out. I do know that I never have a problem switching from one of the locals to any other non-local channel.

My screen always blinks on and off twice before picture comes on. Only a few seconds though.

Pretty much all HD channels are MPEG4 except the ones in the 70s, 80s and 90s (ESPN, ESPN2, Universal, TNT, HDNET).
