To a page with acceptable transponder strengths for the 5LNB dish?
I'm getting upgraded today and could use one to check alignment. I tried searching but only found summaries of bad alignments

In general, you want to be in the 80s but the 90s are better. Different parts of the country will have different readings because some of the transponders are spot beams.

OK, that's good to know. But I would also like to know for which transponders it's acceptable to have a 0 (and especially which ones it's not!)

I don't think we have a list...
On 103c you shouldn't have 0's on any.
On 103s you should have 0's for most... in Chicago... our are on the upper transponders, 17 and 18 I believe, I will have to check mine when I get home.
There is nothing on 99s for Chicago

I activated a new HR21 last night, and while I was on was talking to the rep about signal strengths. I have excellent 101 strengths (95-100) but the rest of them are in the 70s and 80s. Seems to work okay, but certainly the channels on 110, 119, and 103c are the first to go out when it rains. Pole looks crooked too.
Are those signal strengths typical for most folks?

SAT 110 and 119 should be in the 90's and 103c should be in the high 80's to 90's.
I would have a tech come out and realign it.
Here are the spot beams for the 101 and 119 transponders:
101: 4, 12, 18, 20, 26, 28
110: 23, 25, 29, 31
Those transponders could be anything depending on what spot beams you can see. All the rest on 101, 110 and 119 should be in the high 80's or 90's.
As noted above, 99s and 103s are all spot beams. If you get HD locals, then you should have one or two transponders that have high readings but the rest could be low or zero.
103c has all of the new HD nationwide transponders. All of the active transponders on 103c should be in the high 80's or 90's.
There will be transponders indicated as N/A on all of the satellites (except 101). That is normal.
I believe the installer and DirecTV both will tell you any signal over 70 is good. While that is true on a nice day, it reduces the margin you have for rain fade.

Thanks Earl and Carl. That's exactly what I was looking for.
