I just ran 80-90 ft. of Cat5 wire from my upstairs bedroom to an new entertainment center down stairs. I bought a pair of Calrad 95-1044 RCA units to convert the Cat5 to Componet. I have 50"Panasonic Plasma TV thats about five years old. I was getting a great HD picture until I started using the Cat5 Calrad. I still get a good picture, but it's a little duller, foggie, not as sharp as before.
My question is should I run Cat6 or buy a better Componet Balun to get a sharper picture? I would also like some recommendations on on some Cat5 to Componet Balun, I only need the componet, no audio needed.

My HR20 and audio receiver are located in the same area, connected with a optical cable.
GirkMonster, I bought the Intelix Balun and it solved my problem. I'm getting a great HD picture again, THANKS!!!

My Audio equipment is located in the closet with the receivers (optical) I believe they have models that have audio.

I called Intelix and they gave me their distributor out here in Souther California (Smarthome). They had a store about 20 min. from my home. This is why I love this site, the people on this site really know what their talking about. It's like Wikipedia for all electronic information.

That's quite a dangerous situation living so close to Smarthome! ;)
Hmm... didn't know such products existed. I'll have to spend some time on smarthome.com. Anyway, would you be able to connect this say to a wireless gaming adapter to send and recieve from one room to another? Also, if you had athe right video card on your PC would you be able to capture this video on the PC and perhaps record it?

No, these aren't networking devices. They are passive and only provide the one function.

Yes. Hauppage has a component-capable capture card. It may be the only one out right now. See this thread (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=125196).

Just to clarify, in case some people don't understand what that means, these “baluns” are simply using the physical copper wire of the Cat5 cable to transmit the signals instead of the wire of a traditional shielded A/V cable. They are not taking the audio and/or video and putting it into an Ethernet data packet. The benefit of using a balun is that you can use a single run of less expensive and easier to handle Cat5 for longer distances than if you used the necessary shielded A/V cable.

Here's one...component plus IR (http://www.avovercat5.com/products/avov3ptf.htm), but you still have the audio to handle. The bottom line is that cat5 cabling can only handle 4 signals and component is 3 of them.
