View Full Version : Several HD Channels Gone...

For the past week I've noticed that I've lost several HD channels. Here is a quick list of what channels I've noticed so far:

247 TBSHD
248 FXHD
255 MGMHD
269 HISTHD
280 TLCHD
284 SCIHD
362 TWCHD
512 MAXHD
519 STZCHD
521 STZwHD
540 SHOwHD
652 FSWHD

When I run a system test I'm seeing tuner 1 at 90% and tuner 2 at around 20%. I've also swapped the two tuners and still see tuner 2 at a low percentage. I've also removed the BBC's and tuner 2 comes in as 0%.

Is there any way a tuner problem could have anything to do with losing channels even if nothing is recording on tuner 1?

I appreciate any and all help in advance.

Thanks,
Pat

EDIT: By the way this is an HR20-700 on the NR.

If you swapped the wires on the tuners and still got the same results, I would next try the B band converters, swap them, if it is still the same I'd say it was time to call support.

Yeah I've done that and still get a low reading on tuner 2.

But how could one bad tuner result in all these channel losses?

One last thing to try is unplugging the box for 10 minutes or so.

I've done this as well.

Try unplugging tuner 2 (the bad one) unplug the cable and the bbc converter (leave it unplugged). Only use tuner 1 (or the good one). Do a reset and see if the channels come back using only the good tuner.

Call DirecTV customer service.

You need 2 new B-Band converters.

Happens to me all the time, I get the B-Band converters 4 at a time because this happens every couple of weeks or when ever they have a software update or add some new channels or a bad thunder storm.

As soon as you install them press the red reset button & you will be back in business in about 2 minutes.

Are you getting a searching for signal 772 message on the channels you cannot see?

Welcome to DBSTalk!

I don't believe this is a BBC issue, if one were bad and he removed it as he did, he would still show signal strength, except for 103c. BBC's do fail but not usually in mass quantities.

Thank you for welcoming me.

Regarding BBCs all I can tell you is everytime DirecTV makes a technical change like they did a few months ago with how we manage recordings VIA the menu button as opposed to VIA the list button or any software update, guide change or just a bad storm [I live in Florida] all my BBCs get fried and the only way to regain the lost channels is by replacing them.

Just by having a power outage has fried all 4 at once [I have 2 - HR20 HD + DVR]

Literally half the HD channels and many SD channels as well.

I make a habit of having at least 4 extra BBCs on hand at any given moment just in case.

Luckily DirecTV sends them overnight as a courtesy.

Thanks again for the warm welcome, only trying to help.

I've had problems that took longer than 10 minutes with no AC to correct. Try overnight.

If that doesn't work, try a Repeat Satellite Setup from the Satellite and Antenna menu under System Setup.

It sounds like you have some other problem(s) if you're replacing BBCs every couple of weeks or when ever they have a software update or add some new channels or a bad thunder storm.

Well, I left it powered down(unplugged) all night.

Same issue this morning after powering back up.

Looks like it's time for a service call.:(

Quick question guys...

Since it seems all my SD channels are functional, and that the only channels I am losing are Mpeg 4 HD, could there be any relation to a single sat?

Are you getting any non-local HD channels at all?

If not, your access card need to be reactivated by D*.

Yes...

I'm getting all of the 500's and 200's in HD except what is listed in the OP.

Have you refreshed your services on the directv website? Something else no one has asked, have you actually checked the LNBs? Some have reported cracks in the LNB heads causing moisture to enter and short things out.

How 'bout the second suggestion?

Also, to "refresh your services" on-line for a particular receiver, go to DirecTV.com > Customer Service > Troubleshooting > Channel trouble > Missing Channels > "Solutions" > the last choice: "resetting"

Yes to the refresh.

No I haven't been to the roof yet but DirecTV will be up there tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I will let you know the outcome tomorrow.

Wow...

I just ran another system test and now tuner 1 is coming in at 13% and tuner 2 at 30%. Weird.
