am21 Questions confused

here are some question that I have, I have read most not all the threads regarding the am21 but am still confused.

1. I get my local channels now with my hr21-200 why would I need the am21 directv provides them now for a fee.

2. Will the am21 work when it rains so I can still watch the weather warnings or does it to loose its signal when it rains?

3.If I get the am21 will I need to pay a fee to use it as I already pay a fee for locals?

I will work in weather that your satellite dish might not. It's just like hooking the antenna to your TV...except that you can record those OTA channels on your HR21.

Not everyone gets their locals in HD. I use mine mostly for PBS and a couple of the independents.

There is no fee for using the AM21.

The only reason I ordered mine, is so I can get the subchannels including the 24/7 local weather channels.

It should only lose the signal when your terrestrial antenna isn't getting a signal.

As far as I know, there is no lease fee. The AM21 is owned.

Yes you would need in antenna.

To hook it up: Disconnect the power to the HR21. Connect the antenna to the AM21 and then plug the USB cable into the AM21 and the HR21. Then the AM21 comes with another power cord connect that to the AM21 and the HR21. Then the power cord that was connected to the HR21 connect that to the AM21 and it will power up and take you to the setup screen.

Exactly. However, what kind of antenna is the question.

I was able to get one station just by connecting the coax to the AM21 without the antenna. It all depends.

Try www.antennaweb.org, that should help determine how much antenna you need.

thanks for your reply/help will check out the site listed and get me an OTA antenna and the am21 for when then storms come because thats the only real time I would need it, some times its nice to know when tornadoes are coming.:D
