View Full Version : When will we be 99W/101W/103W only?

By "we", I mean core SD and HD programming (non ethnic programming) customers who also get their SD locals off of 101W instead of 119w or 72.5w, etc.

It is my understanding DTV plans to have all core SD and HD programming off of the 99, 101 and 103 west longitude slots as soon as D11 comes on line.

So, how soon can we no longer need 110W and 119W?

It's relevant to me because I am losing 110W line of sight due to tree growth.

There are lots of indications that things are heading that way but no specific statement and no timeline. D11 is support to be live sometime in Q3 per the latest quarterly business meeting. How quickly they will shuffle things around once it is up and what exactly they will do is still mostly speculation.

The common assumptions are moving the Locals on 72.5w and international programing somewhere and moving or mirroring the mpeg 2 hd channels to mpeg4 format.

From some really good sources, the Slimline3 dish is due out within about a month, so I suspect much sooner than later.

I'd say that before the end of the year, the standard installation for all core customers (SD or HD) will be a 3 LNB (99, 101, 103) dish.

that means i can buy one online soon and put it on my deck.:D
110 &119 are an issue on the ground for me.
so a 3 lnb slimline for 99/101/103 would be ideal for me:D
I can't tell my wife about this new dish yet:lol:
Perfect solution to me
Now move ESPN2 NOW!:D

Some areas still get SD locals on 119. Not sure what they will do about that.

They will be moved to 99/103 as they are changed to Mpeg4.

If the SD locals have not yet moved off 119 but since we don't have a LOS to 119 due to trees can just a 3LNB be requested since a 5LNB won't do anything for me anyway? Then be all set when they do move.

I don't think the SD locals will be moved off 119. D* has no plans for this. If anything there will be more SD locals on 110 and 119. They aren't giiving 110 and 119 up.

Lets not forget there are many areas in the country still with out local SDs on DirecTV.

I bet 110 and 119 will be used for these some year. I am talking the real small DMAs.

I would expect any new SD DMAs would be done in mpeg4, and would not show up on 110 or 119.

I would expect current SD locals that are on 119 to stay there, at least for some time.

If anything moves to 110 or 119, I would expect to see international programming move off of 95. Pure speculation on my part.

I imagine that within a month of D11 being lit up that all core programing will be available off of 101/99/103.... However, I also suspect that the MPEG-2 HD will still be mirrored on 110 and 119 until September at least for MDU's...

I'd say that before the end of the year, the standard installation for all core customers (SD or HD) will be a 3 LNB (99, 101, 103) dish.

I think the first 101/99/103 dish is supposed to be out in June, with a SWM version in September, IIRC from las Saturdays chat... So your assumption seems to be right....

You won't need to change your dish unless you just want to change it for the look or because your bored. Directv would charge you because there won't be any reason to change it.

Some areas still get SD locals on 119. Not sure what they will do about that.

They will still get them from 119.

They will be moved to 99/103 as they are changed to Mpeg4.

MPEG-4 can come from any sat... And there is no reason to move locals off of 119... They will use the space on 99 and 103 to ADD markets, not consolidate sats....

Lets not forget there are many areas in the country still with out local SDs on DirecTV.

You will never see an SD market fired up again in anything but MPEG-4... Which means all new markets should be considered HYBRID markets in my book. You will see a mix of HD and SD feeds in any new markets (MPEG-4 SD LIL started rolling out last year for LIL) after next Feb... but you will never see HD and SD separate feeds again for any one market... I imagine over time all LIL markets will be moved to MPEG-4 one at a time so that they can go to that format of broadcasting.
