I have a 622 and use the 5.3 IR remote control. Lately, the down arrow (below the "select button") has become less responsive. I have to push it down hard for it to respond. The behavior is the same regardless if I use fresh batteries. My guess is the contact under the button may have some gunk on it.

Has anyone experienced this?
Is it possible to open the remote and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol or similar?

I don't own my 622 (I pay a monthly lease) so I'm a little worried about breaking the remote or violating any warranties on it.

I think you can get one free replacement if you have that DHCP thing. Someone help me out here because my remote is kinda the same way with the arrow keys.

you can clean the rubber pad and the contacts.
snap back closed.

I don't know about the DHCP thing :) , but if you have the DHPP, Dish will replace remote controls. If you use Credit Card Auto Pay, they will waive the shipping charge as well.
