Here is the situation. I installed the 8PSK module to my Dish 6000 receiver this evening. Followed all the instructions, I have the latest software version 777, turned off the receiver and unplugged it. Installed the module turned everything back on. Did a system check and receiver recognized the 8PSK. Discovery HD showed up in my program guide. Selected it and saw the banner on the top of the screen with program info, then the screen went to black. Called Dish. They had me do a signal test for 61.5. Discovery HD is on Transponder 4. My setup shows that it is a spot beam. All other HD programming, Showtime, HBO comes in fine as a transponder. They had me reinstall the module...same results. They say that it is either a defective module or something is wrong with my receiver. They suggested that I test it with another 6000 unit to determine which is causing the problem. No problem-called the guy who installed the system in '99. He doesn't have an extra 6000 but is coming out tomorrow around 7. Do you folks have any idea what might be going on? I thought Dish could just send out another module but they are reluctant because it might be a receiver problem.

Try running a switch test and see if it is picking up all the satellites. Also check to be sure the Dish cable is now going in the 8PSK module not the old port.
You did call in & subscribe to DiscHDT, right? You didn't make that clear or if it showed up in the EPG in red.
Still, it takes a little time to get it turned on so I wouldn't panic. After confirmation that they sent you a new "hit" with DiscHDT I would try a soft reset if you still don't see it. That is, pull out the smart card for 30 secs or so & reinsert it.

Mike, yea they had me do a switch test and everything was fine. Dish (and my local installer) are confused that when we run the signal strength test transponder 4 shows up as Spot beam 4 for 61.5. Both Dish and Rick said it should not say Spot beam. I will double check the cable when I get home tonight but it appears that the module has a built in overhang to preclude one from connecting to the old port (covers it up). HT Guy, yes Dish verified last night that I am a member of HD Discovery Theater in good standing. Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.

It appears that unless I get another 6000 to test against MY receiver integrity I will have to pay for another module. I guess it makes more sense for me to order another module than buy another 6000! If it weren’t for the fact that I think Dish will outperform D* in HDTV I might consider going over to the enemy camp.
