The platinum remote that came with my new 721 is getting extremely hot at the end with the IR emitters. It runs through a set of batteries in about an hour. The remote still functions on both the 721 and the other devices programmed into it.

Anyone else had this problem?

DishNetwork is sending a replacement. I've had bad luck with the 721 as I am on my second receiver and now my second remote.

The 721 gives a "Low Battery on the Remote" message that appears in blue on the 2nd line of the channel title screen. This is a pretty cool feature. I imagine it will save some calls to Tech Support!

Is one of the buttons stuck in the pressed position? This is about all that could cause both of these problems.

No, I don't think there are any stuck buttons. I checked. But the only way to know for sure is to pop the cover and the rubber keyboard protector off. The 721 remote is glued together, so it won't come apart easily. Besides, the remote still works. If a button were always pressed, wouldn't the IR remote continue to broadcast that IR signal?

Kevin - are you using rechargeable 2100ma double a batteries? Or even 1800ma batteries? If so, that's probably your problem - those batteries may be too strong for the remote.

WHOA, AA batteries only lasting an hour!? They should last longer than that! On my 721 they last at least a month or so (sometimes longer). Sounds like a bad remote.

I'm using plain old Energizer AAA alkaline batteries. Likelya bad remote, but I wonder why it worked for a couple of weeks before giving out. I reprogrammed a blue-button remote to work with the 721. But won't be able to control the PVR functions with it.

Wow I have not changed my batteries on my 721 yet and we all know how long I hae had my 721! (I got to look in there and see what kind of batteries I got! I think they are Energizer Max) :)

Sounds like you have a short in the remote that is shorting out the batteries and draining them in an hour. Remotes can last months or even a year with alkaline batteries.

They should last a LOT longer than an hour or a couple of weeks.
