Due to the Tornados that Ripped though downtown Macon Georgia area on Sunday morning it left people whose local television market is Macon without a Fox or ABC station for they were knocked off the air during the storms.

Last night during prime time programming Directv switched on the New York distance stations of both ABC and FOX as a result Directv customers were still able to watch their programming during this difficult and hard time and for that I want to thank and Commend Directv on a job well done.

They even put up a place holder on the local channel location telling people what channel number they could find the distant network and to check back periodically to see if the local station had been restored which the FOX network WGXA was around 10:00 last night after being out since the storm moved though around 5:00am Sunday morning. When I left for work this morning WPGA the local ABC station was still off so I don't know if they have been restored yet or not.

Absolutely another benefit of DirecTV.

Well done and my hats off to them. I know they put systems all over Louisiana after Katrina as well for people to keep up to date...

They always seem to come through when the chips are down.

Definately well done DirecTV

Way to go DirecTV...way to step up and be a part of the local community. I hear all these negative commercials about how they aren't local, but here's one way they actually made a local change that helps their customers! Nice one!

That is AWESOME. Really great job D*. I hope the people of Macon recover quickly. Down here in Florida we understand what storms can do to people lives. Good luck up there.

That is a commendable and thought ful act on DIRECTV's part, even nicer that they took the time to get a note up telling where you can tune to find the replacement channel.

I wonder if they had to quickly cut a special deal to deliver the national feeds into the local DMA or if they already have that in place for emergency situations?

I am not surprised at this, they are far more compassionate than many large corporations. My heart goes out to all the people whose homes and lives have been so severely impacted. After hurricane Wilma in 2005, D*'s trucks were rolling and putting peoples dishes back up, protection plan or not. I was one of them. In less than 24 hours after the storm, I and many others, had our generators running and watching the news. Thanks D*.
(cable didn't come back for two weeks)

It certainly is nice to patronize a company that shows some compassion, and that's a rarity these days. Way to go D*! :goodjob:

That replacement of national networks over a local provider in the case of a natural disaster is standard boiler plate in any carriage agreement DTV signs...

That would be interesting to know. Perhaps you're right, that this is because of a national emergency protocol. Can anyone verify this?

Glad to hear about this. Although I have more than my share of complaints, I've stayed with DirecTV since 1996 because the service has been way superior to cable! Hope you're all doing well with the recovery. My hometown lost 88 people to a tornado in 1924 and my grandparents lost their house, so I've always been extra aware of twisters.

Well done DTV!
