My wife tells me that a "residential account executive" from Optimum cable has been checking out my neighborhood (obviously looking for 3 and 5 LNB dishes, at least in my case) and offering to buy out my current service committment with D*.

She told him that I make all of the TV decisions, so I have a feeling that he'll be back sometime soon (he left his calling card). He'll have to jump through quite a few hoops to "wow" me into switching over to cable...much less Optimum.

I'm already in bed with Verizon, so I get a discount on my phone, DSL, and D*. plus all the incentives that I pushed for when having HD service installed by D*.

I'll let you know what this guy "promises" to me, when I finally get to speak with him.

Anyone else get "ambushed" lately? ;)

They come by houses on Long Island all of the time. They will offer to pay any open committment costs and they will offer the "Triple Play" (iO TV, Optimum Online and Optimum Voice for $90 per month for two years.

Once you tell them that you are completely happy with DirecTV and don't want to change (the easiest way to stop the discussion in its tracks is to tell them that you are a Sunday Ticket customer and the fact that Cablevision doesn't have it is a deal-breaker, they have answers to nearly every other reason), they will start pushing the Optimum Online and Optimum Voice for $30 each.

Bright House (Time Warner) here in Orlando does the same thing about every 6 months or so. They have people drive around looking for dishes and soliciting to buy them out of the commitment and promising all sorts of other "deals". Having had Bright House many many years back, and absolutely detesting the service, I always politely tell them to take a hike. :D

My girlfriend told me that Comcast stopped by our house last week with a "dish buy back offer" trying to get us to switch...she said they would have to see me, and they have not been back. The flyer they left said the same stuff, buy us out of the contract, free install, discount on bundled service for 6 months.

We got ambused. I live in an apartment building in NYC that had D* until last year. The MDU operator wanted to sell the business so Cablevision (Optimum) bought them out, and proceeded to disconnect all the equipment. It took almost a year to get another MDU operator, and needless to say, no one has a kind word for Cablevision. They're so desparate, now FIOS is coming, hee, hee.

TW doesn't knock on doors in my area. Don't know why. I'd be more then happy to show off my satellite DVR and how it runs rings around their DVR

Insight Cable has sent me a mailer every week or two for the past 6 months about their bundled service. I have now noticed them in the subdivision, but they haven't came knocking out our door yet. I've not seen a buyout offer or anything from them yet, but I wouldn't doubt it's coming.

I'm constantly throwing away mailers from Cox. Don't open the envelopes or read the flyers - straight to trash.

That you can only get 1 of. When I told them I needed 6, they told me they couldn't offer me service lol

Over at tivocommunity.com, there are many posters who say they are leaving Directv so they can have TIVO back. And, cable has gone all digital here, so the snowy analog lower channels are not a problem anymore. I'm still with Directv, but cable seems more tempting than before.

Charter Communications calls me everyonce in a while asking me to get Cable. They don't jump through hoops much but its fun when every reason they give me to switch usually Directv beats them out. I honestly think I almost convinced one of the CSR's from Charter to switch to Directv. It was quite amusing.

I get offers like that from Comcrap but that's why they call it Comcrap.

I doubt you'll hear from them. I dropped Insight about 2 months back for D* and when I went to turn in my 4th Motorola 6416 and drop the service, they only tried to sell me telephone service. They keep pushing phone service like it's special, and ignore their TV service. That's why I switched. I wish there was another option here for my broadband, but FiOS stops at the bridge, and somewhere to the north. I'm in no-man's land.

Optimum pulled the "in person" thing on me. Almost killed the guy, rang the door bell at 8PM.....those who have small children (think 2 years old) know how much self control it took to not (literally) throw the guy off my porch.

He kept trying to find "ins" to get me to switch, I told him I love my dish, love my DVRs, etc. He said he didnt realize I had sat because he couldnt see the dish, I told him "did I mention I loved my installers too? thanks but no thanks".

Friend of mine used to work for CV, said you can call in and have them note on your account that there should be no "in person" sales calls.

They are slowly converting cable to all digital here, but Im not impressed even with their digital and HD channels. Even my wife says D* looks better, and thats comparing our 65" with a 48" running CV. Youd figure it wouldnt be so obvious with the size factor thrown in, but it really does look that much better on D*. Wont even get into the insane pricing policy for DVRs thru Optimum.

i usually do that but put random trash in the envelopes. Candy wrappers, everything that came in the original thing they sent to me, bottlecaps, dirt, etc...

and pennies.

I get stuff in the mail every 6 weeks from Brighthouse. On my block they have lost over 50% of there customers to Sat and ATT Uverse.
