View Full Version : DirecTV not owning up to their promised credits?

Hey everyone,
I was just curious for those who have signed up fairly recently for DirecTV. I got mine installed in February of this year and really enjoy it. When I signed up I was told I'd get a $20 new customer credit for four months, in addition to the the Q4/2007 promotion which ran $20 off for 12 months.
One of my coworkers who also went over to DTV got both rebates applied. I spoke with two reps (back in March and April) after my initial sign-up that indicated that indeed I would have the rebate credit applied to my account shortly...I was only seeing one new customer credit applied which they told me was the four month one.
I'm wondering if they're "misremembering" what they promised me as a new customer. It seems they are giving me the New Customer credit for 12 months which they tell me now, is in fact the Q4/2007 rebate. I wonder what happened to the other credit they promised.
Otherwise, their service and support seem to be pretty good. I haven't had any other trouble than with this credit thing. Has anyone else else received two credits or was supposed to?
Thanks!

Most of their credits are done through rebates, like the current offer. Did you happen to fill out or apply for the rebates? Were they necessary? :)

I signed up 2 weeks ago and was supposed to get $18 off each month for 12 months. My account on line says I get $10 off. I am waiting to see my first bill before I call them about it.
Re-sub'd after 3 year hiatus with $18 discount for 12 months. I did not see the discount on my first bill. I called to inquire. Next month's bill showed $8 discount. I called again and asked where my other $10 discount was. CSR applied it to my recent bill and tells me that I should see both ($8 and$10) discounts on my next bill. I told them how disappointed I was having to call to get the discounts that were advertised. CSR posted an (extra) $10 discount to my recent bill. :righton: I will check next months bill to see if the $18 discount "sticks".
All my credits have expired now, but when I was getting them, I had to call several times to get them applied.

I've been told by several reps that it's sometimes difficult to apply different credits at the same time. Unless the rep truly knows what he or she is doing, DTV's computers balk at posting month-to-month credits if they're given in the same 12-month period. At least that's the excuse.
Speaking of promises, I'm still waiting for the second set of 12 free PPV coupons promised.....last year. (Don't ask though how long or how many calls it took to get the first 12 after they were offered.)

Have you verified online that the rebates have been applied and approved? I am coming up on my 3rd bill and haven't had a month with the full $20 applied yet. Nothing the 1st month and a $10 credit appeared on the 2nd bill. I am now showing "new cust offer_$20" under activity since last bill so it took close to 3 months. I would call again.

PAJeep: Yep...i've had the same new Customer $20 credit applied since my second bill. One of the phone reps told me that this was the four month long credit, and my rebate would kick in on my third bill.
Now they say the new customer rebate is for 12 months and is in fact the Q4/2007 rebate which was successfully submitted and accepted online.
Something isn't quite right...i do have my original information. They did give me a full $20 credit for going green when they said I'd only get $5 back. They also gave me $22 credit for canceling my free movie channels prior to the date at which they'd start charging me for. So all in all, I may be out only $45 or so. Just seems crazy that they'll promise you these great rates when you sign up, then bury you in red tape and a billing blackhole.

Same here i was promised 20 dollars off for ten months. i got installed last october. called in december they said it would show up on my bill with the third bill, it's almost june now NO CREDITS!! I think they do it to just about everyone to lure you in. Granted i love directv but i do feel like i was lied to.
They're "credit" system is seriously flawed. I had a credit expire and had to call them ... only to have the rep. turn my HD package OFF. I called back - an hour on HOLD - and they reactivated it, but then screwed something else up. Another phone call - another 45 mins. on HOLD, and they finally resolved my receiving issue -- but my account was wrong for 2 months (improperly billed)... Finally chatted with retention who fixed it... for now..
I had the same problem when I first went HD. Promised credits were not initially applied to my account. But I called them about it after the first two months of not seeing them, and it was corrected fairly easily. They've been there ever since.

You have to activate the rebate, it is not instant. Prior to Q1 there was a redemption form included in your first bill, now there is a buckslip directing you to www.directv.com/rebate or a phone number to call where you enter in your acct # and zip code to activate the rebate. The rebate will usually show up after the first bill. Also, certain programming packages do not qualify for the rebate (Family, WorldDirect Basic & Familiar Mas). Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem. I signed up with the $18 rebate but only got the $13 rebate when the bill came. I've called several times and was told an $18 rebate did not exist in their computers at the time.
When I signed up at the end of January 2008, I was supposed to get the $20 credit as well. All I have seen is a $10 new customer credit and a $10 referral from my dad. I have called DirecTV and was told "we will look into it", received an e-mail saying my rebate was approved and still only had a $10 credit. Submitted an e-mail, told that it would take 10-15 days, told it was approved and still only see the $10.
I am on my 3rd e-mail attempt for the rebate I was promised. I also have a printout of my original order confirmation but no CSR has ever asked to see it.
The rebate web page NEVER showed the $20 rebate as an option when I first subscribed which is what prompted my first call.
Love the programming but they really should work on upgrading/fixing their billing system. Seems a little cludgy.

I got the refer a friend credit on my very first bill. They said it would take 2-3 cycles, but it showed up right away.
Rather be lucky than good.

There have been a few threads on things like this
Just make sure you are RIGHT on what they promised and if so, keep pushing. If that means writing to them a few times OR calling and demanding to talk to a CSR or manager, so be it
Sometimes D* needs to be pushed before they move
