Looking for some guidance here ...

Have a 6000 connected via component cables to my Pioneer SD-582HD5 rear projection monitor. Works great & I am happy but - being a perfectionist there is one annoying issue.

I have significant overscan - to the point where the graphics can be partially cut off on sports events. For instance on sports events where they tend to put grahics on the edges of the screens with scores etc

There is some adjustment for this in the model 6000 setup menu for HDTV - I can move the picture around a bit, but it is still significantly overscanned.

I have entered service mode on my Pioneer & changed my horizontal/vertical size to see what that would do.

I did have some overscan here(expected), but interestingly enough the majority of the overscan was from the 6000.

Be curious if others have this problem & what if anything can be done.

thanks in advance !!!

The best thing is to check it with an Avia disk to set up your TV. Is the cut off only when you are in HD or SD or both? Have you also tried the screen formats in the HDTV setup menu (aspect ratios)?

Just did some experimenting

Ran my 6000 into a multisync computer monitor that is totally adjustable. Used the RGB output of the 6000, set it up in the 6000 HDTV menu & it worked great.

Here I was able to use the 6000 "adjust" feature and the monitor's features to prove the 6000 would give me a full output (not "overscan" or truncating of the picture if the "adjust" was correct).

So - I guess the problem is in the way my pioneer is handling the component input.

Unfortuantely when I try & use the 6000 RGB out to the pioneer RGB in it will not sync - but that's is another issue altogether.

Thanks mbart - I will get avia to see what my pioneer is really doing to me.

Dumb question: when you press the Browse button do you see "Normal" in the upper left corner? If not, press the * key on the remote to cycle through the different modes. You may be in a stretch or zoom mode.

Thanks - I remember when I first got the 6000 - it took me a few weeks to discover the * button functionality.

That's not the problem - some more adjustments in service mode in the Pioneer tell me that it is the overscan of the Pioneer that is the problem.

Problem is when I pull the limits of the overscan the I start to see distortion on the screen edges.

From reading other posts on the net - this is a common problem with RPTV's.

I think I will have to live with it - the picture is great in it's original mode - it just bothers me to know I am missing a significant part of the high definition picture I paid a lot of money to see.

Next set will be plasma or front projector where I can see it all.

Most RPTV's average about 5% overscan. Have you considered an ISF calibration?

Thanks - you are correct - only so much I can do as a novice.
ISF calibration is what I should have done.
